Hedgewizard 🐈
VVMylk unsweetened Oat milk powder review:

I can see why the supermarkets haven't touched this - it's not all that similar to regular oat milk.

The powder mixes up easily in water, but makes a faintly yellow suspension that settles out quite quickly. The taste is acceptable but not particularly milky, and the mouthfeel is distinctly watery.

But where this milk really falls down is that it seems to disappear without trace into hot drinks, imparting nothing but cloudiness and a faintly oaty flavour. It's like someone with a biscuit had a sneaky dunk while your back was turned.

A disappointment, but it was too good to be true. It did prompt me to learn a bit about how oat milk is produced, which leads me to believe that the 2D printed sheets I see coming on to the European market may work but powders probably won't.

#oatmilk #plantmilk

Hedgewizard 🐈
Coming up later: my oat milk powder review

We switched from dairy to plant milks about ten years ago, and eventually settled on oat milk (our sweet spot in terms of taste and sustainability). But the waste in terms of shipping and tetrapaks has always bothered me.

Now I find there are plant milk powders on the market, but the supermarkets don't keep them. Not sure why, but I ordered some VVMylk to find out and it's just landed in my post box. More later...

#oatmilk #plantmilk

Sam (Ethical Revolution) 🌱✌️
One of the simplest steps an individual can take toward a sustainable planet for ourselves and future generations is to switch dairy milk for plant milk.

Soya and oat milk are the most environmentally friendly, with remarkably low impacts compared to cow's milk. LionelB
I have read that yellow bedstraw (Galium verum) can be chopped up and used as a rennet substitute for plant milks. Has anyone tried that?

I want to let mine go ahead and flower but if there is excess I will try with almond and coconut. I decided it was easier to wean myself than waste so much time, let alone drag cartons that were 99% water with few emulsified mouth-feel ingredients in them. Guess it's harder to wean if you have a family addicted to them too...

Cab
Most of the recipes require cooked rice, water, and lots of blending. So I did that. And it tastes like rice. It's nothing like milk, and in tea its horrible. So that one is a no from me. Still, noting ventured, nothing gained. #veganuary #PlantMIlk

Cab
Anyway, to increase my vegan recipe repertoire, I've made soya milk (not awful, not my favourite thing), oat milk (minging) and of course I'm familiar with coconut milk. I'm not especially taken with almond and hazel nut milks I've tried. Are there any others I should try making, that are nice? #milk #PlantMilk #Veganuary #Vegan
