Mike<p>I've been listening to an excellent programme on <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/bbcradio4extra" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>bbcradio4extra</span></a> about National Service in the UK and the experience of those involved.<br>It's not the sort of documentary I'd normally choose to listen to be I think it should be compulsory listening for any idiots who propose bringing conscription back. (And it points out that it was the <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/tories" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tories</span></a> who abolished it).</p><p>The programme on <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/BBCSounds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BBCSounds</span></a> is called 'Call Up - The Story of National Service' - worth a listen for a slice of British history.</p><p><a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/army" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>army</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/NationalService" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NationalService</span></a> <a href="https://cupoftea.social/tags/conscription" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>conscription</span></a></p>
