Ok, pergunta aos universitários: Precisei remontar o meu NAS, que também rodava meu jellyfin (pra tentar aproveitar um pouco a placa de video onboard pra fazer decodificação de vídeo). Antes utiliza o jellyfin instalado nativamente no debian. Estou pensando agora se é melhor manter dessa forma ou usar algum container (não sou lá muito fã de docker) para facilitar o backup e atualização do jellyfin. E aí, qual sua opinião?
Ok, a question for the experts: I had to re-do my NAS, that also runs my jellyfin instance. I was ruinning on the nas trying to get some advantage from the onboard intel gpu for video decoding on jellyfin). I used to have jellyfin native installed on debian. I'm thinking if it's best to have it as a container not a great fan of docker) in order to make it to backuo and maintain the jellyfin install.
So what would YOU do?

I'm planning on building a #NAS sometime soon, as I currently do not have any reliable way to back up my desktop computer (I lost direct access to the 55 TB NAS at my mom's place when I moved out and running a full backup over the internet would take about 5-7 days). Current plan for hardware is this: https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/gYx8zP
The board I picked has an PCIe slot and an LSI SAS 2008 HBA can be had pretty cheaply, which will allow me to attach an additional 8 drives should I run out of storage. The OS will be #NixOS, file systems will be btrfs for the root partition and ZFS for the storage array and I already outlined a config using a VM on my Windows machine for testing: https://github.com/earthnuker/NixOS/tree/main/hosts/talos
I’m starting to feel that thing.. I have not enough NASes… I need a separate #NAS for family documents, photos and files and a separate one for #Plex, movies and TV shows. I don’t know why. Just… need… MORE SERVERS!

Per eavesdropping I learn that vandals are destroying the staff and thus capacities of the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The vandals are being quite effective.
Philanthropic and other external non-federal funding cannot flow without an operational staff.
This sort of thing has been normalized in the space of only a few weeks, so is it noted in public at all? If so I missed it. But the media scape is awfully large and our attention budget too small.

My #NAS has two network interfaces.
My #Proxmox node has two network interfaces.
I feel an urgent need to utilize that!

NAS, Nextcloud und Backups
Ich möchte ein Backup zu oder von einer Nextcloud einrichten, doch in den Backup-Tools finde ich zwar Dutzende Clouddienste, nur kein Nextcloud.
'Member how I was kinda bragging about my FreeBSD NAS's 21-day uptime? Well, I attempted to reboot, just for the heck of it (because why not)...and some shit happened.
The reboot process took a while to stop PIDs, and I saw there was a "naspool has been suspended (uncorrectable I/O failure)" error printed to the console. About 40 minutes later it's still stuck. It appears to have hanged, so I had to do a hard reboot. I searched around on the web for this error and found some forum posts, but none of them seemed to have any doable solution. I've gathered that the common thread in some of the forum posts of this error is that it has to do with USB storage, and my naspool is connected via USB.
It booted back up, and the naspool seems fine, but for some reason bhyve doesn't work anymore. I have my web services in a bhyve Debian VM, so those are now (still) down. Bhyve was working before the reboot. When I run the bhyve command to launch the VM, it appears to boot but then it just stops and returns to the shell. No bhyve processes are running.
I suppose I can try reinstalling Debian in a QEMU VM, but I feel like bhyve /ought/ to work.
