𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒑𝒆𝒓All quiet in the bee yard. Hopefully the cluster is keeping warm in there. It's getting cold the next few nights and it's stressing me a bit. The straggler bees remaining after the second package shaking are secure in the garage. The 2nd I'm inspecting the queen to make sure she and her attendants were ok. The 3rd shot is me shaking the bees like they owe me money into the brood box. Unfortunately the weather here is less than ideal for the installation process but I'll have to work around that. We also planted 12 raspberry starts of 3 or 4 different varieties. Along with the shopping it was a productive day. I need to mulch more wood this weekend before I evenly space my cinder blocks and finalize everything. The bee board for water is directly behind the apiary and I have honeysuckle transplanted from my grandmother's starting to come up on the hillside. The nucleus colony of 5 frames will arrive on April 10th. I'm ready but it made me really think about things. This class is going to dive deeper into the technical aspects of beekeeping and the various products you can get from the hives besides honey. 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒑𝒆𝒓Hello everyone. I hope you've had a good Monday. Mine has been good as I had vacation today. First thing this morning I did a deep clean inside and out on my car. Then finalized my bee watering systems. The bee watering board (not for water boarding bees 😉) and the recycled pet gravity waterer with colored stone landing area are complete. I'll decide where the gravity waterer goes after the hives are in place. It's all coming together. 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒑𝒆𝒓This is the top of the bee watering board I'm trying to design. Currently I'm experimenting with the number of bamboo rods used to convey water. I think 3 will work for the best coverage but I'm still looking at a couple different builds. Essentially the bamboo allows very small drops of water out of the bottle causing the board to remain moist but no actual beads of water running down. 𝑩𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒑𝒆𝒓My frame spacer and a "tactical" pocket hive tool arrived today. Both were not entirely necessary, I could eyeball the frame spacing and I have a large hive tool. My OCD would have me out there spacing the frames for hours so this will allow me to space them perfectly in seconds. Which is the goal, get in, do the inspection, and get out. The pocket tool caught my eye and was $8. I figured a mini backup couldn't hurt.I only need bees now.
