Haaretz editorial:
"The disaster that befell #Israel on the holiday of Simchat Torah is the clear responsibility of one person: Benjamin #Netanyahu. The prime minister… completely failed to identify the dangers he was consciously leading Israel into when establishing a government of annexation & dispossession, when appointing Bezalel #Smotrich & Itamar #Ben-Gvir to key positions, while embracing a foreign policy that openly ignored the existence & rights of Palestinians."

@nicol it’s the result of israel violently occupying palestine for 75 years. maybe they should stop their ethnic cleansing??
@nicol
Netanyahu is currently on trial. This is his way of trying to stay in power.
@nicol @ianbetteridge thing is, Netanyahu *wanted* this outcome. It’s not a blunder.
The opposition is joining him in a war government. He won’t lose an election over judicial reforms. He can ditch the far-right parties and stay in power.
@SamTheGeek @ianbetteridge more Israelis were murdered yesterday than in the last decade combined. It's a devastating and tragic intelligence failure. I can't see how he's not finished, the question when, not if. Trying to devastate Gaza might once have worked for him as distraction, but there's 100+ hostages there. He left southern Israel insufficiently defended, and I can't see how he gets past that.
@nicol @ianbetteridge it doesn’t matter if he’s finished eventually, politically. He’s not going to get jailed and he’ll ride off into the sunset with a “mixed” review from historians. Rather than following the path of other failed autocrats and being reviled.
@nicol @ianbetteridge he just needs to keep the corruption trial tolled until he hits “elder statesman who will be allowed to retire quietly” age. Because the prosecution can’t continue as long as he’s in office.
@nicol no... He didn't failed... He wanted this. He wants an all-out war. He fussed last Palestinian Authority ballot to favor Hamas over Fatah. He pushed the settlement politics to a bulldozer way. It was all on purpose. Now, he got it.
@fabiocosta0305 @nicol and mark my words: Netanyahu will be remember like the Austrian Moustache Guy was.
@nicol Haaretz on the money. They've been a Cassandra for some time.
@nicol Consequences. But let's blame Biden or something.
@nicol anyone who believes swapping out Netanyahu would solve this has OD’d on individualist ideology. The Israeli government as a system is designed to be cruel and fascistic and who is in charge of it does not matter so long as that system is preserved.
