General question for -- how should we make decisions about which tools to use?

For example, in the CWG, I created an doc on and then asked people working on that doc to use it.

When it came to switching to on , we discussed it at length.

In a recent phone chat one person suggested google hangouts and others suggested Zoom and we agreed to use the latter.

Do we need some protocol or etiquette on this?

I'd personally go for a list of "desired traits" like for instance:

1. Open source
2. Federated
3. Accessible
4. Cross platotrm

If two comparable services are proposed, the one checking more boxes in the list is selected.

@mayel @Matt_Noyes @Antanicus These are good suggestions. I think we should keep our community free from Google and their ilk wherever possible.

@Antanicus @Matt_Noyes a great opportunity for a tech policy, which is essentially what @Antanicus is suggesting. Here's the IWOC policy as an example

@clayton @Antanicus

This is good. I like the dashboard of invest/divest! Sort of like the platform capitalism footprint idea I had.

Cool! I'll move this to the tech WG so we don't lose track of it
