I notice that for all the benefits of open social coversation, I've built a habit of *not* sharing thoughts because I feel so necessarily defensive and cautious about doing it on the surveillance capitalist platforms.
It will take some effort to figure out the appropriate comfort level for posting here.
@tuxicoman Yes, I was meaning self-censorship. And I'm identifying myself here anyway (though I know that's not required, thankfully).
I won't do zero self-censorship, but here I can at least not feel that I'm feeding the ad algorithms or encouraging others to use those systems.

The "wide" social network is public.
Protection on #mastodon comes from the fact that your server collects only an email and your IPs. And other servers and every user know only your nickname.
