Lots of interesting details in this @restofworld piece on #whatsapp
- #India, #Brazil, #Mexico and #Indonesia the largest markets.
- 400 million daily users in India (means 800 million non-users?). 90% of Brazilians use it
- Increasingly becoming an ad revenue machine for #Meta #Facebook
I'll happily stay a non-user.

In India, it is really hard to avoid WhatsApp.
You have student groups in school and college. Then once you start working you have office groups. Some even use the feature called "Communities" where you have all the relevant groups of the organization. Of course your family members are also on WhatsApp.
Some websites will even send you OTPs on WhatsApp along with SMS.
WhatsApp 2 years ago tried to push a major ToS and privacy policy change. It was like accept or don't use policy. Thankfully, a court ordered to allow use without accepting the new terms. I am probably the small pool of users who still haven't accepted the new terms.
WhatsApp is trying to become the WeChat of India.
@ncoca hard agree ( though I know it’s not always a viable choice for people)
