So I'm suggesting a solarpunk, open-sourcy, cooperative, web-based thing. Probably run from an existing FOSS cloud like OVHCloud, because cracking the cost of entry for a data center is... for later.
With the right group of people, the product or service is open to debate. A business needs to solve some problem out there, and there's lots to choose from.
I'm not asking for money, and I don't have much myself. I'd like to hear what people think, is any of this interesting at all?
It would be worth talking with the members of CoTech, as this is something that they've been discussing.
@BillySmith That's cool, although it requires joining the Webarchitects co-op to use their git, which is less cool.
It's the same as joining the Mastodon instance we are talking on. :D
They have to do some form of gatekeeping/moderation to operate safely.
For individuals the membership is free. They only charge for organisational use. :D
@BillySmith I know, but I had an initial 'ick' factor.
It's possible to browse their public repo's. :D
This includes the scripts used for our Mastodon instance, and the GitLab code their repo is running from. :D
I slap my forehead thrice!
We may already be members via Social_Coop :D
Similar to Meet_Coop... :D
@BillySmith I'm also the kind of person who may have joined at some point in the past, and later forgot.
The number of times where i have read something interesting, gone to bookmark the page, and, found that i had already bookmarked it, is enteraining... :D
@mpotter I'm always down. I've wanted to run a co-op instant messaging platform (probably based on Snikket) in the past, or a co-op code forge (probably Forgejo). Or maybe Mobilizion as a platform co-op? For product development I've thought about doing some workplace organizer software to keep track of campaigns or maybe a b2b instant messaging thing as a co-op. Or I've got an existing xmpp library and client I'd like to make cooperatively.
@sam Messaging and communication are high on the list for people who want a better world, because it's key to organizing any movement, business, whatever.
I've been reviewing communications tech, like the xmpp chat protocol you mentioned, and mobilization is needed in so many areas. The puzzle pieces are here and there, for making secure connections, project management, etc.
