How many other #LibertarianSocialists / #LibertarianSocialism supporters are there in the #fediverse?
If you are not sure you might want to try http://8values.github.io/ or read https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Libertarian_socialism
@brennen you are right, it might be good to raise an issue in the github repo.
@fabianhjr this seems like mostly a good way to get myself into a gun control argument, which i have probably done enough of for one lifetime. :)
the general problem is that all of this stuff is kind of arbitrary. it's an interesting undertaking, but it's just fundamentally never going to be very rigorous.
I started a fork of that project a while ago, slowly trying to fix some issues I and others saw with it. Please let me know how you find it: http://mayel.space/Polytica/
@mayel @brennen @fabianhjr Thank you, will take a look!
@mayel @fabianhjr @brennen @h meeee! Polytica version is much nicer BTW. https://soc.ialis.me/media/KR6t3Nry8SUX2PuzgtQ
@wxl @mayel @fabianhjr @brennen @h
Well I guess I'm one of you guys :) (this is from 8values)
#wheredoIbelong
@Maltimore @mayel @fabianhjr @brennen @h one of us people, yes 😉
@wxl @Maltimore @fabianhjr @brennen @h I tried @mayel version. Although it is a bit US-centric, the outcome is of course also Libertarian socialist, although I consider myself just simply as an anarchist.
@jeroenpraat @wxl @Maltimore @brennen @h @mayel
What I read in the wikipedia page included a small section on anarcho-syndicalism and libertarian socialism.
And somewhere else it was mentioned that the goal of both is analogous, only difference is the path taken. (Take my comments with a grain of salt, still new)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_socialism#Anarcho-syndicalism
@jeroenpraat @wxl @Maltimore @fabianhjr @brennen @h
thanks for giving it a go!
I've been trying to make it less centric on mainstream politics and current events / hot topics, so if you have any suggestions of questions that could be tweaked or added to make it more global that'd be great as well!
and here's me: http://mayel.space/Polytica/results.html?e=92.1&d=95.2&g=92.1&s=93.9
@mayel @jeroenpraat @Maltimore @fabianhjr @brennen @h I will probably open up some issues. There are a few questions that are difficult for me to answer, which is probably why I'm less libertarian or socialist than I believe myself to be.
@wxl @mayel @Maltimore @fabianhjr @brennen @h Yes same with me I think. I'm curious about your issues.
@mayel @jeroenpraat @wxl @fabianhjr @brennen @h
Wow you're in the extreme end on literally all axes. How does it look like for you on 8values?
@h @brennen @fabianhjr @wxl @jeroenpraat @mayel also, is there anyone on here who's not Libertarian Socialist? 😀
@Maltimore @h @brennen @fabianhjr @wxl @mayel Yes there are a lot of other ideologies, but left wing people have a large majority over here. Oh... and for I forget: Beware of the tankies!
@fabianhjr Stalinists, Maoists, etc
@Maltimore @mayel @wxl @fabianhjr @brennen @h Not much different. A few months back I tried that one.
@Maltimore @jeroenpraat @wxl @fabianhjr @brennen @h
I'll have to take the 8values one again to compare
@fabianhjr As discussed the other day, the anglosphere is largely unaware of the original meaning of the word "libertarian", before US ancaps took it over. Hegemony of US usage of English makes Newspeak and non-meaning customs transport derailed versions of the original concept.
@fabianhjr One could reasonably expect that radicals would stick to the root meaning of words and the concepts they represent.
It's a daily struggle for correspondence between words and reality.
@h @fabianhjr political philosophy has a long track record of confusing the meaning of words, but that's a coercive move. Capitalism & the state are both guilty of dominance & hierarchy, so both are enemies of anarchism, thus anarcho-capitalism makes no sense. Still, great way to manipulate the left into supporting something closer to the right: make it sound like freedom.
Also few radicals know the root of *that* word, especially those of us growing up saying "rad."
@wxl @h @fabianhjr As far as I am concerned, "anarcho"-capitalism and capitalist "libertarianism" is nothing but plutocratism.
@fabianhjr That'll be me too, hi!
@douginamug @fabianhjr Yep, that quiz was the one that sent me off on a journey learning about the original meaning of libertarianism!
@fabianhjr Anarcho-Syndicalist, does that count? 😎
@risabee as far as I am aware they are very similar. (Even sharing black and red colors) Though I haven't really read much on political philosophy.
@fabianhjr @risabee Anarcho-syndicalism is a bottom-up, horizontally scalable way of practical organization of/for anarchists (as in libertarian socialists).
@fabianhjr @risabee "Though I haven't really read much on political philosophy."
> "His employer became the first person he converted to socialism"
Damn, mad respect. Will try to read more of Political Philosophy during winter break.
@fabianhjr I got Democratic Socialist, I guess we can still be friends?
@stolas sure thing :3
@fabianhjr same here, it tells me I'm a libertarian socialist. Interesting little quiz, but yeah, I would never have called myself a "libertarian", probably because of the different meanings and connotations in different countries. To me, "liberal" is very badly connoted, and even though it is a different word, it makes me feel weird being called a libertarian :)
@stragu yeah, I also hold negative connotations for liberal/libertarian. I guess it is because of the Laissez-faire folk on both camps.
@fabianhjr i lean that way at least a few days out of the week, and my results seem to agree, but i am really skeptical of this style of quiz. so many questions are... well, ok:
> Gun ownership should be prohibited for those without a valid reason.
sure, ok, but there sure is a lot elided in "valid reason".
