You are more than right. Those people only SAY they were voting for the Easter Egg.
They were really voting bigotry and they know it.
I think what they are really saying is, "We voted to get rid of [put a marginalized group here] and instead firing FAA workers will screw up my vacation and firing IRS workers will delay my tax refund. We didn't vote for THAT!"
