I have a feeling some fedi people might jump down my throat about this but I just created an alt account on at bsky.app/profile/eliotlash.com

I have a few reasons for this. One, I am finding I have a lot of people I know on there I can reconnect with using sky-follower-bridge.dev/ to migrate my social graph from Twitter.

Two, establishing a presence there I can encourage people to enable so I can interact with more bsky accounts from fedi.

Bluesky SocialEliot Lash (Alt Account) (@eliotlash.com)This account exists to help me explore bsky. Main acct: @Eliot-L.social.coop.ap.brid.gy I am planning to mostly interact via Bridgy Fed: https://fed.brid.gy, follow @ap.brid.gy to interact. Mastodon: https://social.coop/@Eliot_L Pronouns: He/him

@Eliot_L No throat-jumping from me but have you opted into Bridgy Fed from that account? I tried searching for @eliot-l.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy from here and I see nothing. That's expected if you haven't opted in, but I think there is some process, mysterious to me, that has to happen for the account to be known to the bridge.

@soaproot I haven't yet, I'm not sure if I'm going to either. I'm not planning on posting there much so I don't know if I gain much by enabling bridging that account *to* fedi. My fedi account is bridged to bsky though, and I am trying (although currently not succeeding much) to get the people I know on bsky to opt-in to bridging so I can interact with them from fedi. All I've posted so far is trying to explain to people on there what I'm doing and why. If this changes I might enable bridging.

@Eliot_L But what if you post something which is wrong? How am I supposed to repl..... oh wait..... we're supposed to try to AVOID being a Mastodon stereotype LOL

@soaproot FYI, I've decided to enable bridging of my account: @eliotlash.com

I think my usage patterns with this account will differ from what I originally planned. I explained why here (this thread predates me bridging the acct): bsky.app/profile/eliotlash.com

I am glad I made a real bsky account for a few reasons. I used a tool to crawl my birdsite follows and it found over 700 matches, most of which seem legit. Also, I'm getting "their side of the story" re: decentralization.

Bluesky Social · Eliot Lash (Alt Account) (@eliotlash.com)I have to say after leaving birdsite 2 years ago and really only hanging out on the fediverse and Discord, it's nice to see so many people on bsky I knew from the old days. Kinda feels like going to a college reunion! (Or what I imagine it to be, 2020 ruined mine.) 1/

@Eliot_L @eliotlash.com Good reminder about how reply control is lacking on Fedi. I think everyone I've seen speak on it say we need at least some feature in that area (especially about whether a reply shows up on my own profile). But if that has proceeded to implementation I haven't noticed it.

@soaproot Also as part of my effort to learn more about , I've found a few resources I'm trying to digest.

This talk by Dan Abramov, an engineer I greatly respect, has been great so far but I only had time to watch the first half this morning: youtu.be/F1sJW6nTP6E

On the other side, this is also an incredible thread/blog post about vs. , decentralization, and how both Bluesky and the can improve (by one of the authors of AP): social.coop/@cwebber/113527462
