David Wilkins<p>Today, we’re coming right up to date with the big Kia EV9 electric SUV, seen here at the SMMT Northern test day for journalists last year. The EV9 has this rather interesting ‘crystal ball’ style gear selector (first photo). I peered into it, looking for guidance on the future of the EV market, but came away none the wiser. Incidentally, the crystal ball flips over to reveal a more conventional rotary gear selection knob when you turn the car on.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/davidsdailycar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>davidsdailycar</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/Kia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Kia</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/WeirdCarMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeirdCarMastodon</span></a></p>
Dave CarspottingThis is INCREDIBLE <a href="https://gram.social/discover/tags/WeirdCarMastodon?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#WeirdCarMastodon</a> material. This is a JDM Suzuki Jimny with a bodykit that makes it look like a tiny G-Wagen. The detail is astonishing, down to the headlights that have the same horizontal bars as the original. Most astonishingly, this car has a California license plate, which means it was successfully federalized AND titled in California, both notoriously difficult tasks to accomplish. I’m so glad I went out to see this marvel today.<br> <br> (Actual G-Wagen for size)<br> <br> <a href="https://gram.social/discover/tags/cars?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#cars</a> <a href="https://gram.social/discover/tags/photography?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#photography</a> <a href="https://gram.social/discover/tags/carspotting?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#carspotting</a>
Nathan Avots-Smith<p>I know seeing faces in cars is pretty common, but I always see one specific face in the Mercedes W111—Scrooge McDuck's! Just me? <a href="https://weird.autos/tags/WeirdCarMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeirdCarMastodon</span></a></p>
Make Subaru Gay Again<p>is this bad ai or something? either way the ryobi pressure washer water broom is perfect for cleaning bolognaise sauce off your vehicle. <a href="https://weird.autos/tags/weirdcarmastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>weirdcarmastodon</span></a></p>
Nathan Avots-Smith<p>Day 22: the power steering pump and A/C compressor are hanging loose, the wiring harnesses are unplugged, the fuel line is disconnected, and the engine mounts are unbolted—the engine and transmission are ready to come out of the wagon! First I have to tidy the garage a bit to make some more space, but it's definitely close.</p><p>If you thought BMWs were untouched by the Prince Of Darkness, though, bad news...<br><a href="https://weird.autos/tags/WeirdCarMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeirdCarMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://weird.autos/tags/EngineSwap" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>EngineSwap</span></a> <a href="https://weird.autos/tags/BMW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BMW</span></a> <a href="https://weird.autos/tags/E39" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>E39</span></a> <a href="https://weird.autos/tags/WrenchEveryDay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WrenchEveryDay</span></a> <a href="https://weird.autos/tags/LucasElectronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LucasElectronics</span></a></p>
Lewis<p>Next up is figuring out how I am going to route my brake lines along the axle, and to know how that would work I had to buy some brakes.</p><p>Even though the standard drums on a Ford 9" are probably strong enough to overpower the P5's front brakes, I like oversolving problems and not checking my bank balance, so here is a box with four pot Wilwood calipers, 11" vented discs with drum handbrake provision and everything I need to fit them.</p><p>*monotone voice* I like cars</p><p><a href="https://weird.autos/tags/WeirdCarMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeirdCarMastodon</span></a></p>
Lewis<p>And that's the second one done. Took a flat edge to it, didn't find any distortion. so either I have a methodology error or I have not written off a Ford 9" axle housing. :)</p><p><a href="https://weird.autos/tags/WeirdCarMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WeirdCarMastodon</span></a></p>
Human after all 🇺🇦<p>I used to go to school in a bus version of this. We spun on the way to school one morning and and the demented mother we carshared with used to overtake a solid line of traffic every morning at mach 2.3 just to dump us at the school door. Amazing how small they are now <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/ireland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ireland</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/weirdcarmastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>weirdcarmastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.world/tags/nissan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nissan</span></a></p>
David Wilkins<p>A few days ago, I posted about the rather pricey 2001 Renault Avantime (blue car). For anyone who liked the Avantime’s unusual derrière, the same look was also available on the smaller Mégane for a lot less money. I saw this one (red car) in Downham Market, a small town in Norfolk, a few days ago.
