#WindsorON #YQG #Cycling #Urbanist activists are making a big deal that Windsor is hosting the #OntarioBikeSummit2025 in late May.
I'm not going to link to the website, because they want to charge attendees who register "early" (Before April 15th) $550 plus "fees and taxes". After April 15th, this cost goes up to, get this $775 +
The vast majority of people in this community who NEED Active, Alternative, Accessible, Affordable #VisionZero infrastructure and policies are EXACTLY the people who these "Advocates" have decided to price out of participating.
#Urbanism in general suffers from an egregious #Privlidge issue, but this is absolutely disgusting.
You can be guaranteed that these groups, these people, will be there shilling their books, their membership fees, their Patreon Pages, more than they do anything else

Then vs now.
At Årstaberg station (commuter rail & LRT ring line) just outside inner city Stockholm. Big redevelopment ongoing. Low rise light industry to high rise residential (fairly urban). Including eastern entrance going from stairs & ramp up to narrow shared use path, to a a plaza with nice ramp & stairs, wide pedestrian + cycling bridge across, and a big grocery store coming!
Other side getting somewhat redeveloped soon too.

aka Compy-chan Anar from BikeSD, who’s the spokesperson in the video, had the idea for subverting the messaging to highlight the benefits to everyday citizens who are dependent on our car-centric society. I thought it was genius and encourage other #urbanist advocates to do the same.

The USA is unique (and abhorrent) in that we force our large numbers of poor people to saddle themselves with auto debt and drive just to safely meet basic needs - even in cities. And that makes us a lot more dependent on cheap EVs to reduce transport emissions.
Multiple layers of policy failure here which make Biden's tariffs on Chinese EVs damning. But it all comes back to our sociopathic auto makers and their grip on this society.
Also, this is why I am a die-hard #urbanist.
