#trombone

Question for #trombone and #euphonium players (and anyone else with an opinion): It's common for people to double on these instruments. I submit that we can always tell which one is a person's primary instrument.

My guess is it's because you have to blow them differently to achieve the characteristic timbre.

A trombonist will tend to blow a euphonium too hard, resulting in roughness in the sound.

A euphoniumist will have difficulty making the trombone resonate properly. This is evident even when the person plays both instruments well enough to handle paying gigs without any trouble. Evident, even, in professional orchestral trombonists who pick up a euphonium occasionally to play Bydlo or tenor tuba parts.

Do you agree or disagree or have a different take on it?

Introduction

Doing an #introduction as I'm new to Friendica, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite ways to engage with the fediverse, and friendica.world. I'm always happy to meet people with similar interests, so feel free to boost / share!

I'm a human who loves weird art, all sorts of music (from Hindustani to Death Metal), tech, sunny days, green hills, incense, tea, spirits, soft couches, cats, and books. I'm a prolific vegan cook, and I design, code, write, play games, and produce, write, and play music for fun.

Greetings fediverse! This is my #introduction post.

My name is Dave, and I'm a musician in Tucson, Arizona, where I retired with my wife after a career outside of music. I've always enjoyed playing and writing music, and kept up with it on an amateur/semi-professional basis through the years. Now I have time to focus on it. I'm playing in several local groups and I'd love to learn about music in your part of the world. I play #euphonium and #trombone and I offer private #musiclessons on those instruments. I also write and arrange music in the broad category of "classical". See neopragma.github.io/dnmusic for more about that. Cheers!

Suspended between concert form and installation performance, Morceau de bleu is a work in progress that arises from the collaboration of sound artists Barbara De Dominicis, Alessandro Ciccarelli, and Cristian Maddalena, in an open, ever-changing dialogue freely inspired by Maggie Nelson’s poetic horizon.

Bluets serves as the premise for a profound sonic investigation, anchored in a fragmented and multifaceted poetic language. It offers a perceptual experience that, like an ideal score, leads the audience to explore a liminal dimension of the self, shifting between active acoustic reception and surrender, between dreaming and waking.
