I'm so good at buying stuff for my #homelab and so bad at actually placing that in service. The list of stuff in waiting:

1. Backup #NAS box - waiting for OMV installation and disk transplantation from old #Synology
2. #tplink AX5400 access point - waiting for VLAN configuration on switch
3. Two small #bitcoin miners - waiting for VLAN-based VPN routing
4. New 2 TB NVME drive for my primary PC - waiting for a solid idea on how to move #Fedora from current 1 TB drive without re-installation

Thousands of #TPLink routers have been infected by a #botnet to spread #malware
According to Cato CTRL team, #Ballista botnet exploits a remote code execution vulnerability that directly impacts TP-Link Archer AX-21 router. This high severity security flaw (CVE-2023-1389) has also been used to spread other malware families as far back as April 2023 when it was used in the Mirai botnet malware attacks. The flaw also linked to the Condi and AndroxGh0st malware attacks.

‘Ban These Chinese Routers NOW,’ Cries House Committee
TP-Link in crosshairs, along with other brands.

#Chinese consumer-grade networking gear is a dangerous #security threat, argue these fine gentlemen. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-Illinois), Rob Joyce (former NSA director of cybersecurity) and Rep. John Moolenaar (R-Michigan) have hatched a plan to eradicate TP-Link routers and other plastic pigs from our homes.

#TPLINK on the other hand, is spitting feathers, arguing it’s not been a “Chinese” company for years. In #SBBlogwatch, we get familiar with #OpenWRT.

After TikTok, the WiFi router in your home may be next Chinese tech ban target

Government officials worry China could use TP-Link routers to launch attacks on U.S. infrastructure and military readiness, as well as collect information on the public from home router systems, and they are pushing for a ban to begin within the next year.

I'm still stuck on getting OpenWRT onto TP-Link Deco M9+ v1 btw. The difference between v1 and v2 (which another person has up and running) is in the v1 using an eMMC.

If anyone here has experience in figuring out this type of error (followed by I/O errors) after otherwise having successfully identified the mmc, all the partitions and sizes etc, please let me know.

I think that it's fucking dumb that it seems to me that I couldn't do something I thought was pretty freaking basic - disabling WAN access, while retaining LAN, for a device on my network via my #TP-Link AX73 #router.

From my findings, it seems that I
can, but only on its mobile app rather than the web interface, but worse of all... only with a fucking monthly subscription. Parental controls are locked behind a paywall too btw. I've been loving this router but what the actual fuck?

I feel like this is something that should be fuckin' plastered right in your face at every point up until the moment you pay for this brick. I never knew this, despite thinking I made enough research about it. Is there really no way to save this, fellow
#networking/#homelab gods?

New House Projects – Network 2.0

Ok - So, take one of this project didn't go as planned. I don't regret the choices I made, and while I'm very happy with how everything is working today. it's not the setup I had hoped for. So, where did I end up?

Firstly - I ended up ordering a firewall from Protectli, the VP2420, which I ordered with Coreboot BIOS. Performance has been great, it was easy to setup, and the
