From a long-term #strategy #perspective, it is important to "dare" outlining not only the success of such projects, but also the consequences (for #society, project/tools/#platforns #ownership, etc.) and the most likely next steps that follow such succees.
While among the most #significant #challenges (and #changes) for our #global #society, we can combine the #inevitable ongoing #automation of (mostly boring..?!) work with #UniversalBasicIncome to achieve ALL of the following..:
- a whole new #concept of (and approach to) work
- eradication of poverty
- enforce #transparency in #government, and hence reduce #corruption
- environmentally friendly production
- we can finally take really good care of children, improving #QoL + #learning while also reduce #crime and psychological problems
- new concept of #ownership
- #fairness in common #resources #distribution
"criticizing (..) the SegWit2x #Bitcoin scaling proposal despite significant opposition from certain sectors in the community, including the Bitcoin Core developers."
"If a select group of CEOs and investors, no matter how benevolent their intentions, can unilaterally make decisions about the consensus rules without public comment and force these changes upon the network regardless of overall consensus, then Bitcoin will have lost the properties that make it valuable in the first place."
"IMF’s Lagarde Warns Banks: Cryptocurrencies Will Bring “Massive Disruptions”
At a meeting hosted by the International Telecommunication Union this week, Yao Qian, the Director of the Digital Currency Research Institute under the People's Bank of China, reportedly boasted about the potential of a state-owned #digitalcurrency, while suggesting that there is an inherent lack of value anchoring public cryptocurrencies like bitcoin.
According to a report by Yicai, Yao also framed a state-issued digital currency as a way to stabilize domestic fiat currency, while better securing country's financial status."
As a long-time fan of #strategy #videogames, I'm becoming more and more aware of the fact they are a channel through which the predominant, hierarchical and capitalist worldview is delivered to teenagers and young adults around the world.
What if, for a change, we developed a strategy game where #cooperation and mutual help are rewarded, instead of conquest, exploitation and wealth extraction? Would such a game be boring, or fun to play?

"The same conversation has different number of messages, when looking from different instances"
"- This is a known problem/feature of GNU Social and of Mastodon"
Creating an Effective Content #strategy, Part 1: Where to Start #startups https://www.startups.co/articles/effective-content-strategy-part-1
As for the counter issues; Each instance should know whenever it's count is out of sync and offer the possibility to update directly from the origin.
Maybe there is a need to finance a network of hub servers to provide all instances with fast up-to-date indexes?
Even with legitimate and logical reasons behind the mismatching #synchronization, that is not a situation that will help this platform succeed.
@jansegers - hm, I tried to spell out the whole instance name, but it does not show. Trying an alternative way:
My idea is to make it possible to have structured discussions (in this example about #informationOverload) and for others to follow (only) the part(s) of it that they are interested in:
In my setup;
1. everything about information overload from all my accounts are boosted into THIS timeline (@infO_Overlord).
2. The toots related to technology/solutions for managing information overload are in the @LeeteqXV timeline,
3. the (non-technical) toots related to i.o.'s effect on society in the @ZeniorXV timeline,
This way 3 different audiences may all contribute to the public discourse within their own interest(s) competence(es) and comfort zone.
Plus, at this point it is mainly a question of adding more filtering options, which do not need to be "invented" as we already have examples.
Personally, I am all in favor of identifying which of the more advanced (and resource/performance hungry) search/filtering features of #Mastodon may be added as "premium features" available to the monthly donators through the Liberapay subscriptions, or the like.
As for other types of financing for more powerful experience, I also think that the world has not yet explored the potential of user-controlled #advertisement based on interests (topics/hashtags in special profile function).
I have done extensive research into the challenges of #categorisation, both with my own 25000+ Multi-tagged bookmarks collection, and of Flipboard's initial 400+ categories a few years back, etc.
(Not trivial: it is not like one person's logic fits another. #Taxonomy must be an ongoing collaboration.)
2/ There is also the exploration dimension: identifying instances by "topic weight", etc.:
- search for posts using given hashtags filtered by frequency per instance
- search results filtered by which users are using the given hashtag(s) most frequently
- etc... Anything that lets us explore the #Fediverse and connect with more and more people.
(This is inevitable, and even at the core of the potential success. We should turn this dilemma and challenge 180 degrees around, into a strategic edge, not an unsolvable, eternal problem.)
(I am starting to see the need for a separate layer of indexing/search servers for performance and update speed. That may help solve the challenge of mismatching counts, too (boosts, followers, etc.).)
In context of the potential consequences of the combination of #UBI (#UniversalBasicIncome) and #automation (#robots/#AI (#F4IA...*)), the global(!)) society is now at a watershed where we need to REdefine each and all of the following elements:
This is not only a huge challenge in itself, but the very PROCESS of having the necessary #publicDiscourse about these issues is yet another.
@jansegers - is it Universal Basic Income you are talking about here? Good to tag it as such in that case, so more people will see your post.
IMO, in context of the potential consequences of the combination of #UBI and #automation (#robots/#AI (#F4IA...*)), the global(!)) society is now at a watershed where we need to REdefine each and all of the following elements:
Society needs tools, frameworks and strategies to deal with #informationOverload.
If the general population is not in charge of which information is made available to them, #democracy is at risk.
We all need to save maximum amount of time and enable ourselves to actually deal with challenges, voting and decision-making both democratically, sensibly and effectively.
We need efficient tools for discussion, moderation, #reputation building, collaborative decision-making & future inspection of previous decisions.
Everything must be open*: #transparent and verifiable by the public.
