_The Evening Post_, 19 March 1925:
SLIP ON RIMUTAKA HILL ROAD

(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)

MASTERTON, 19th March.
The #Rimutaka Hill road was blocked an at 2.30 this afternoon through a slip coming down where a Public Works gang was widening the road. One car, with the assistance of ropes, got round the edge of the slip this evening, but it is doubtful if heavy traffic will get through until to-morrow night or possibly later. It is expected that the obstruction will not be removed for 48 hours.

in #Caversham #Reading again this weekend visiting relatives (saw my uncle on his last day in UK before he flies back to Malaysia).

Took me over an hour just to get across Reading yesterday, due to #roadworks and #floods (the #RiverThames had burst its banks).

Just having a chilled evening (as there is little these days I would want to do in the centre of Reading and I would only end up in the #trafficjam again)

(there is another cat, but she is camera shy)

Also on today's route, a bicycle tunnel closed for resurfacing. While this is happening, cyclists have to use the road bridge for cars which is parallel to the cycle-path. In order to make the route convenient and safe for cycling, this section of road has been completely closed to cars for the duration of the works. Drivers must take a 9 km detour so that we can use this 1 km section of road in complete safety.

There are more examples of road works made safe for cycling on my blog:

And the last photos for today are these from Sunday's recreational ride.
While riding between a smallish town and a village we came across a road and cycle-path closure, but as usual (in the Netherlands) the experience for cyclists was still top-notch.
This has to be the case.
If cyclists give up cycling due to bad experiences when infrastructure disappears temporarily they may never return to regular cycling.
You'll find lots more examples of how to make sure that road works don't stop people from cycling on my blog here:
