#SUPPORTING Article 21: Right to Freedom from Noise Pollution.

Noise has been receiving increasing recognition as one of our critical environmental pollution problems today. Like air and water pollution, noise pollution increases with population density especially in our Hyderabad urban areas, it is a serious threat to our quality of life according to Article 21 of our Constitution which guarantees us as Indian Citizen, a dignified life which includes Right to Freedom from Noise Pollution.

Today Noise pollution has also become the major problem in India, with some of the main sources of noise in residential areas including loud music which continues past midnight, early morning chanting in speakers, transportation, lawn care maintenance, construction, electrical generators, Elevated Metro Rail, wind turbines, crackers, explosions and people.

In addition, poor urban planning, poor governance, slumberous administration and the absence of a more rigorous law or law enforcement agency are contributing to noise pollution, as industrial and residential buildings are often located close to one another due to SMART CITY PLANNING since 2015 and the lack of a written mandate for implementation of NOISE CONTROL Polices. NOISE LEVELS MEASURED DURING THE JUST CONCLUDED FESTIVITIES in Hyderabad, Secunderabad & Cyberabad has gone past 99.9dBA to 107dBA Leq-Lden-Ldn & CNEL during DAY and NIGHT TIMES. Which is making a mockery of the Environment (Protection) Act which was enacted in 1986 and The Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.

This is a really interesting hour-long documentary on the development of militant antifascism in Paris from the late 1970s through the 1980s. It particularly looks at the evolution of skinhead culture and, to a lesser extent, early hip-hop culture, and how it all related to the development of Le Pen's National Front (now the other Le Pen's National Rally).

One thing that's kind of striking here is the way that US cultural symbols were adopted as the fighting played out in France (and the UK). The adoption of "rocker" (basically biker/rockabilly) music and fashion is one thing. Also the way that some of the French antifascists were directly inspired by the Black Panthers and other Black liberation organizing in the US.

At the same time, while French neo-Nazis started wearing Confederate battle flags in the '80s as symbols of white power, French antifascists started wearing US flags to counter them. It's obviously extremely reductive and I can't exactly endorse that, but I'm just kind of fascinated by the ways that symbols are reinterpreted when applied to new contexts and freed from a lot of the baggage they carry elsewhere. (The long-standing use of Palestinian and Israeli flags in the north of Ireland comes to mind, though obviously they refer to a very different kind of conflict and very different power relations.)

Also noteworthy is some of the unexamined machismo among a lot of these dudes. Just saying.

Anyways, this doc packs a lot into one hour, so it's a bit dense and frenetic, but well worth watching, for anyone who's interested in this stuff.

@cstross Ah, write-once read-never shellscripts, fun times.

You're right, it is pretty funny.

It's a set of #awk pattern matches, writing them out as strings instead of awk script files is a good idea if you want to break things.

Personally I'm quite fond of #EmacsLisp for script-gluing things where performance of the glue doesn't matter. #Eshell likewise is a decent shell #DSL with access to those same #Elisp-glued utilities.

#Racket's #Rash is somewhat similar.
