Yes please. As a former #ProbationOfficer I endorse this message.

"...The chief inspector of #probation in England & Wales, said the current model was “not sustainable” & suggested ministers should free up capacity by no longer asking probation officers to monitor people released from prison after short custodial sentences for crimes such as shoplifting.

The Guardian · Cut ‘unsustainable’ probation workload in England and Wales, urges watchdogBy Rajeev Syal

#RandiRhodes made an interesting point last Tuesday:

#SteveBannon admitted to #ABC's #JonKarl that he "keeps in frequent contact with T****."

"One of the rules of T****'s conviction/probation (as a #ConvictedFelon himself) is that he can not associate with other convicted felons… which #Bannon is, having just reported for prison on Monday."

This is an automatic violation of his #Probation and T**** should be thrown in jail. But once again, the law does not apply to Donald T****. #AboveTheLaw

Michael Popok and Karen Friedman Agnifilo are back for the midweek edition of the top-rated Legal AF podcast. On this episode, the anchors discuss and debate: (1) Judge Cannon’s latest missteps in the Mar a Lago criminal prosecution of Trump, and whether it will lead to an appeal to the 11th Circuit; (2) the next steps in the criminal sentencing of Trump in New York, including his recent probation department interview and revelation about his illegal gun ownership; (3) the further decay of the US Supreme Court, with the Chief Justice circling the drain, and justice’s wives continuing to pose a threat to democracy and the rule of law; (4) the Hunter Biden conviction, putting it in context and what it says about the integrity of our justice system, and so much more at the intersection of law and politics. In NY State, after a person is #convicted of a #felony or serious misdemeanor, a #probation officer must prepare a pre-sentence report, which the judge uses to help determine the defendant’s #punishment.

In some instances, the defendant can also be interviewed by a #SocialWorker or #psychologist working for the Probation Dept. Such reports also include a defendant’s #criminal history…& the probation officer often interviews the arresting officer…& the defendant’s family members & friends.

One of his lawyers, Todd #Blanche, will be present for the interview.

It is unusual for a lawyer to be present for a #Probation Dept interview, acc/to current & fmr agency officials & several defense lawyers w/experience dealing w/the agency. And since the coronavirus pandemic has waned, virtual interviews have become far less common.

But Justice Juan M. #Merchan, who presided over Trump’s #criminal trial & will hand down his sentence, signed off on the arrangement.

#Trump, who was #convicted last month on 34 #felony counts of #FalsifyingBusinessRecords, is expected to have a virtual interview w/a NYC #Probation Dept ofcl on Mon.

The interview is required as the agency prepares a #sentencing recommendation for the judge in the case.

Trump will be in his home at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, FL, for the virtual meeting — his 1st w/a probation ofcl.

The New York Times · Trump Will Have Virtual Interview With Probation Official on MondayBy Chelsia Rose Marcius

'As part of the report, the New York probation officer will gather Trump’s prior criminal history — which is none — employment history and economic status. If available, state law also requires the report to include findings about a defendant’s “physical and mental condition.”
