I'll set up #Nepenthes or something similar of your choice on your existing server, but customise it so it kind of looks like your website and can provide human visitors with a bit of entertainment. I don't know tooo much of its inner workings but I'm a quick learner and am also adept at styling/templating/picking up your website's vibes

@Stellar @unnick I started cautiously with 4 and then went on to 16, but I see the default timeout for scrapy is 180 so I think even with 128 I'm way safe 
Don't seem to have lost any robots so far, at least! (I set up #Nepenthes early morning today and have already picked up a couple of scrapers)
@Mojeek I'm assuming #MojeekBot (and all the other good ones) follow robots.txt? So if I deploy #nepenthes to a bunch of surprising URLs but block off those URLs in robots.txt, it should keep well-behaved bots safe while trapping the evil ones?
It's one thing I wanted to check before deploying something like this

My little Briggsiana is growing up :’) Yes I do say this every time it opens a ‘biggest pitcher yet,’ but it was my first #nepenthes and I’m very proud. This is the first time I’ve noticed any hairs on the underside of its lid, there will probably be more of those as it matures!

As I was moving it to systemd I actually realized all my container's output was already in journald... Looks like I also missed the first big crawl.
Looking at timestamped logs now I see ~22k requests on the 22nd/23rd, then ~79k yesterday and this morning. It's been running since Jan. 31st.
#nepenthes responds very slowly on purpose to slow down walkers, so I can tell there's also a lot of parallel requests!
Last night I fed +100k pages of junk to some disrespectful AI bots 
. It's the first time I see a large crawl. It didn't take long considering the only link has been on the webpage for one of my personal GH repos for about a month...
NB: My #nepenthes instance has a robots.txt that explicitly disallow crawling so I have no compassion for the crawler or its users generating AI slop.
Someone should add #iocane #nepenthes and other AI #TarPits to #YunoHost as applications 
Include some nginx config changes to have it protect other installed applications too
