Tranquility, Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi

A quiet spot in a big city.

It is the most famous city lake in Hanoi, Hoan Kiem Lake, and it offers peace too. Even if the rest of the area is bustling with activity in the evening.

The city lake of Hanoi are one of my favorites in Asia, particular in the evening when people are using it as a social arena. Both by locals and visitors. It is a place to meet, greet, eat and drink, and to read, quietly observe or seeking inner peace. The park and the lake is big enough even for rather peaceful activities.

The area around the lake is already used for morning classes and individuals doing Tai Chi.

And now meditating people is adding to their numbers mornings and evening.

The concept of meditating in public spots has been on the rise the later years, according to local media.

Hogan Kiem Lake is a must visit in the center of classic Hanoi, the capital of modern Viet Nam. Both day and evening.

Having lots of fun with this little guy. It’s a teeny weeny practice amp that also works as an interface in a pinch. Easily fits in your guitar case. Has line/phone out. You can charge it so you don’t need batteries or cables. If you get the latest firmware it can even load NAM-files, meaning you not only have all the effects and stuff built in to the little thing, but it can sound like a proper full stack all ready to go.

It won’t replace my regular interface when recording at home, but for a mobile solution, or practice, it is a great little gadget, that comes in cheap too! We’re not spoilt for cheap and good but…here it is! :)

Having set up everything for music production again I have spent a couple of days just going through “what is out there” when it comes to creating good guitar (and bass) tones of various types.

Good lord! It is a djungle out there when it comes to VST’s, IR’s, NAM’s, with a million alternatives and a gazillion possible combinations of things. How people keep track of what they like and use is still a mystery to me, as one IR can be completely amazing for one amp/sound but completely off for another.

Also I notice there is a difference between sounds (combinations of the above) that are great to play with…but which perhaps doesn’t record all that well, whereas the opposite is true: a sound (combo) of things that doesn’t appear very playable at first actually cuts through a mix perfectly.

Still have some way to go I notice.

Animation of satellite images of hurricane #Milton for the past two hours in visible + IR wavelengths just now. I'm a lay person when it comes to extreme weather phenomena but this looks extremely bad to me because its absorption in the mentioned spectra hasn't subsided one bit while its main body got much closer to the shore. Other remote sensing products (e.g. Doppler) paint a similar picture. Soooo worried :(
