From Anisacate, Argentina to Çatalköy, Cyprus: A journey of #MeshNetworks

> This journey by APC member Altermundi was fuelled by a mission to make #communitynetworks more accessible and resilient.

- AlterMundi, with its extensive experience in projects like @libremesh, works with communities through decentralised technology.

However, challenges like network diagnostics and maintenance for non-technical users demanded innovative solutions.

🌳 Yggdrasil Network 0.5.9 was released a couple days ago!

github.com/yggdrasil-network/y

This is a notable release due to the addition of new link costing based on the average RTT of each peering, which should help to bring latency down by selecting better links in the vast majority of cases.

If you are running Yggdrasil, please upgrade your nodes, and if you know anyone else who is running Yggdrasil, please pass on the message to them too!

Added

New command line option -user for changing the process UID/GID

📢 Important Meshtastic Network Tip! 🌐

Wondering about using Router mode?

🔑 Key takeaway: A network of CLIENT nodes with a few strategic ROUTERs/REPEATERS is typically most efficient and stable.

⚠️ Important: If you're considering changing roles, coordinate with your local community to ensure a positive impact!

Yaiy! I'm super excited, have gotten accepted for funding from @nlnet!!! This will finally give me the opportunity to work on this project idea that has been on my mind for quite a while now: nlnet.nl/project/OpenHarbors/
Which will hopefully create a ton of new possibilities for wireless community #MeshNetworks like @freifunk, #FunkFeuer, #Gufi, #Altermundi, NYC @mesh etc.

Phew, tried, to wrap how the #batman_adv #mesh protocol and the #Gluon firmware framework handle #Multicast into a 1 hour talk at the #Wireless @battlemesh: media.exo.cat/w/tLUDuxomS61hhm

I'm sorry in advance if some of my explanations might be a bit confusing or missing some pointers, didn't really do a practice run of it in advance and I was running out of time. But if there are any questions, feel free to ask here, too, I'll be happy to answer :-).

When you mentioned #MeshNetworks our thoughts went immediately to the people of Gaza, and how if so-called smartphones were actually ethical they could allow proper #FOSS communication over a meshNetwork, its possible that the current #ethnicCleansing could not be as bad as it appears to be, and protests would be even more pronounced.

But that is the point, isnt it? They don't want people to resist their tyranny with software people control.

Nice projects. Libreserver.org also?
