„The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has said it is "outraged" at the deaths of eight medics killed on duty in Rafah in southern Gaza.

The nine-person ambulance team came under heavy fire in al-Hashashin on 23 March, said the IFRC. Their bodies were retrieved on Sunday after access was denied for a week. One medic is still missing.“

Die ital. Behörden wiesen #MarinaDiCarrara als sicheren Hafen zu – 1.222km entfernt. Dadurch fehlt lebenswichtige Rettungskapazität im zentralen #Med

Seit Inkrafttreten des #Piantedosi-Dekrets musste die #OceanViking bereits 63.381km zurücklegen, um weit entfernte Häfen zu erreichen.

Gestern Nachmittag konnten die 111 Überlebenden der letzten Rettungseinsätze der #OceanViking endlich in #Ancona sicher an Land gehen.

Dieser Rettungseinsatz hat bedauerlicherweise einen bitteren Beigeschmack:‍ Der Tod des 7-jährigen Mädchens und die Tatsache, dass ihr Vater ohne seine Familie weiter reisen musste, erschüttert uns zu tiefst.

In 2 Einsätzen konnte die #OceanViking insges. 114 Menschen aus 3 Booten retten. Nach der 2. Rettung erlitt ein 7-jähriges Mädchen einen Herzstillstand und musste vom med. Team reanimiert werden. Das Kind wurde mit ihrer Mutter & Schwester dann per Hubschrauber nach #Malta notevakuiert.

Die #OceanViking konnte gestern Mittag nach einer Meldung von #AlarmPhone 22 Menschen aus 1 Boot in internationalen Gewässern vor der Küste #Malta​s aus Seenot retten.

Die geretteten Menschen hatten die Nacht auf See verbracht und mehrere von ihnen litten an Hautverätzungen durch auslaufenden Treibstoff. Die Verletzten werden nun von den medizinischen Teams an Bord betreut.

The international Red Cross movement is under pressure to take action against the Russian Red Cross (RRC) over close links between the group and the Kremlin’s war and propaganda machine.

There is also photographic evidence of RRC staff in branded Red Cross vests at military training events for Russian youth, where children as young as eight are taught how to use guns.

The BMJCholera is back but the world is looking awayTo overcome this preventable disease we need to invest in failing infrastructure and tackle humanitarian crises at cholera’s roots, says Petra Khoury Once thought to be close to eradication, cholera is back—dehydrating and killing people within hours and ravaging communities across six continents. Despite the alarming numbers of cases and deaths over the past year, decision makers are averting their eyes, leaving people to die from a preventable and treatable disease. The healthcare community should sound the alarm for immediate actions. A strong and global emergency response is urgently needed, but it is only a first step. More than ever the world must invest in water and sanitation systems and prepare communities before outbreaks occur. Over the past 200 years, there have been seven cholera pandemics, and today’s surge is the largest in a decade. In 2022, 30 countries reported cholera outbreaks, including places that had been free of the disease for decades. In Haiti, where millions of people have been displaced by violence, cholera has killed hundreds of people in just a few months.1 Lebanon is experiencing its first outbreak since 1993, with more than 6000 recorded cases.2 After devastating floods, Nigeria had a major cholera outbreak.3 In Malawi, the worst outbreak in decades has left 620 people dead since March.4 Schools are now closed in an attempt to stop the surge of infections.
