Introducing fedepedia.org!

This is a federated wiki instance powered by ibis. My goal is to collect and organize some Fediverse-related content here, but I'm totally cool with it hosting other entries too :)

Since it's federated, anyone from any instance (as long as that instance isn’t blocked) can edit entries here. That said, since there aren’t any articles yet, you'll need to register on this instance and create one before you can start editing.

This account will be sharing more updates about the instance. I really hope I can keep it running for a while so that it at least becomes another simple Fediverse wiki :P

One of the biggest blocks I have currently with the federation of all of my stuff, is having the ability to add a CW (content warning) to a post.

I search on the issue, and there should already be a way to do this. Probably need a latest and great block theme, using the block editor. Gross.

Any #federated #Wordpress folks get content warnings, per post, working?

(boosts are free!)

As our digital lives in the US become less stable and private, I wanted to figure out how to choose what search engine my browser uses.

I just added a new default search engine option for my Firefox on my MacBook (Mac OS).

1) add an extension to Firefox to allow me to add a different default search engine:
addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firef

I'm thinking of all this because our open source project @pears happens to be just that: a #decentralized #search engine made of a mix of new and old-fashioned algorithms. We are not currently using positional indexing in the #federated version of the code because it doesn't add much to our search precision. We do have it in another version integrated with a private cloud service, which allows people to search over their own files in a decentralized setting. \3

Greetings Earthlings, Is Anybody There? 🛸

For immediate release:
❛❛ An enterprising group of time travel enthusiasts, having only limited resources, claims they will be attempting to contact time travelers on Friday, March 14, 2025, 07:00 UTC — which is less than one month away.

On the date is a total lunar eclipse, when the Moon is darkened by the Earth's shadow for a brief period of time. Such an alignment typically lasts for around one hour. Members of The Krononaut Moon Project assert that using the total lunar eclipse as a signal to visitors from other dimensions or worlds is a perfect mechanism for synching up indie "landing receptions" around the planet. Community participants are invited to observe the celestial events however you like. You could fire up a candle or a bonfire, dance around a sacred drum circle, or connect with your past and future selves to become one with the cosmos — all under the Full "Worm Moon" of March. Observers are encouraged to take many photos of the Moon, noting any anomalous phenomena, and to share your digital documentation with the @KronoMoonPhotos page on the #Mastodon #Federated social media network. Anytime Thursday &/or Friday after dark local time is in keeping with the spirit and logic of the occasion.

According to the Krononauts group, a more commonly occurring partial or penumbral eclipse is not optimal for time travel encounters. Total lunar eclipses work best. They have a very eccentric periodicity, appearing on average once in 13 months. In this way they do not repeat on Gregorian or other terrestrial calendric systems. Still, they can be readily calculated centuries in advance. Over the next year there will be 3 total lunar eclipses, aka, 3 "Krononaut Moons". All are invited, wherever you are.

"On the Night of the Total Lunar Eclipse,
Time Travelers descend in their space-time ships." ❜❜

The last few #YT channels that I still followed trough front-ends are slowly dying, posting less and less. Since YT recommended tab isn't interesting me, I figured I go try out #PeerTube

Found some nice promising channels, but sadly also many inactive. Especially outside of tech there is quite few active ones

If you're here, you probably like #Federated #socialmedia. So if you're a #creator, I would suggest you give it a try (again)! No doubt, there are more like me who'd love to watch there!

This is CogDogBlogged: "Federatin’ Down at the WordPress ActivityPub"

While many people are slamming WordPress because of its baby in charge, I’m focussed still on the open source software I run on my own sites that are not impacted by the tantrums. Lately I have been putting to work on several sites, the WordPress ActivityPub plugin that makes your site publish to and suck in responses from Ye Not So Olde Fediverse.

Just to stake my paw in the space, I […]
