Paco Hope #resist<p>Trying to get <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/HomeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAssistant</span></a> voice working has been one of these “take a mouse to the movies” adventures in <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/homeautomation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homeautomation</span></a> </p><p>I had to upgrade HA to the latest version. That broke some AppDaemon integration that drives the touch screen displays on my light switches. Weather entities now use the WebSocket interface, not the REST API. So my light switches were blank in their default idle screen mode. </p><p>Naturally, the light switch project isn’t maintained any longer, so nobody is available to make a major change like that. So no more weather forecast on the light switch. Instead I show a bunch of sensor values.</p><p>It shows current state of the garage door (little pentagon house looking icon), forecast temperature (left thermometer), actual temperature (right thermometer), humidity, precipitation, swimming pool temperature, and current electric consumption (icons on the bottom row)</p><p>My home assistant setup is no less than 8 different docker containers in an HoC architecture (house of cards 😜) Just like Christmas lights “if one goes out, they ALL go out!”<br><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/tasmota" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tasmota</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/smarthome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>smarthome</span></a></p>

I had to reset it like three times and my wife meanwhile was like laughing at me like look at this guy who does tech stuff and he can't even figure out how to change the cycle on it.</p><p>That took about five minutes, sadly.»</p><p>[…]</p><p>«I don't need Internet on my dishwasher.</p><p>Another third option is somebody has reverse engineered this protocol and built HCPY, a Home Connect Python library.</p><p>But here's the problem: I already spent like four hours getting this dishwasher installed in my kitchen.
