I'm not an artist, but I do enjoy making (bad to mediocre) art. Earlier this year, I felt like I needed some drawing practice, so I've dedicated April to carving out time each day to sketch. This practice has been wonderful, literally the highlight of many of my days, and I'm starting to see progress.

Apple blossoms are among my favorite things to sketch every year.

This morning's trike ride followed my usual route until I detoured to the eastville shops. I bought a capaccino then rode back up to Picnic Point. I parked the trike on the grass and did another sketch of the water tower.

Today’s studio: Burleigh Murray State Park, the Mills Dairy Barn, the only known bank barn (built into the hillside) in California. 1889. The family donated the property to the state in 1979 and it remains largely unimproved except for the ranch road, supports for the barn, and a few picnic tables. Did a quick little (2.5 x 3.5 in) #watercolor.

While I was there I was surrounded by birdsong. Lots of California quail. Black-headed grosbeak. Downy woodpecker. Steller’s jay. Northern flicker. Yellow-rumped warbler. Pacific wren. And more more more. I know who because of the Merlin app.

It was a lovely afternoon. I love riding to here.
