I had a great paddle on the mouth of the #RussianRiver on a foggy day this weekend. It was much warmer than it looks! Several harbor seals poked their heads up to give me a looking-over. Or maybe the same seal several times? I did my best to keep my distance, but they popped up all over the deeper parts of the river.

I promise I didn't prop that board on its fin! It's leaning on a conveniently-placed mound of sand.

Enjoyed it so much I went again tonight. Does this river count for #Fensterfreitag ?

Picnic on the Russian River this evening near Monte Rio.

Adventuresome as ever, longish run today took me into the surprisingly remote feeling hinterlands north of Monte Rio. Up over a ridge and then wending down the river's course past golfers. 9 miles and 1000 ft climbing. I've lived near here for more than two decades, but every new long run is a new perspective and new journey.

The mouth of the Russian River is always magical, but especially today. Fewer seals than usual but what a gathering of pelicans on the sand spit! On the order of 2000 I think.
