SubstackSimon Campbell on SubstackWell things certainly seem to be looking up. Our landlords—the lying cheating José and Dulce Capinha—have finally fixed the drains and now our house, and most importantly, the Sonic Laboratory no longer smells of shit. Result. ////// Last week as well was a revelation as we went to a jam at the Prohibition Bar in Óbidos and met a whole pile of musicians and general cool people. We will be playing a full gig there soon. Following this we were invited to guest with our new friend Trent Chapa in Caldas da Rainha on Friday and on Saturday played a few songs at the reopening of the Marcianus Bar in our home village of Foz do Arelho and met more musicians and more cool people. @Suzy Starlite and I are jamming on Friday night with Jamie Hutchinson, John Cunningham and his wonderful partner Ana Pinto who we met a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully next week we will get together with our new soul brother and multi instrumentalist, Dave Boyd who we had lunch with last Friday. Watch this space on this collaboration. ////// Less welcome news was finding the Van of Rock had developed an oil leak on the crankshaft case which was very expensive to repair. We see online this is a common problem but the VW distributor in Portugal—Siva—did fuck all about it and we had to pay for the repair ourselves. Bugger. ////// Today we had a wonderful interview with Alan Jarvie of 242Radio.com which will be broadcast in the next couple of weeks and will let you know. ////// Tomorrow we are starting to paint and organise the Sonic Laboratory and hopefully get it all up and running before the end of the month so we can get on with some work. ////// Foz, has some lovely coloured buildings and here’s one shot by my wonderful wife.
