Tonight, I am sitting in my home in Scotland watching a film.

No one is outside with a JCB trying to demolish my home, my neighbours' homes, the school.

A foreign army is not throwing stun grenades at my neighbours, adults and children alike.

No one is firing live rounds at my friends and family.

And yet, I am afraid; not for me, but for humanity.

“The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has sent out a statement to its 11,000 members following mounting criticism over its lack of public support for Hamdan Ballal, the Palestinian co-director of the Oscar-winning documentary ‘No Other Land,’ who was recently detained by Israeli forces.

“On Friday, the Academy issued a follow-up letter explicitly naming Ballal and apologizing for omitting both him and the film from a statement sent earlier in the week.”

Gestern in der Region #MasaferYatta in der von #Israel besetzten #Westbank, nur wenige Kilometer in der vor ein paar Tagen der Co-Regisseur Hamdan Bilal von #NoOtherLand von Siedlern zusammengeschlagen und anschließend verhaftet wurde, im Dorf Jinba gab es gestern einen Pogrom. Siedler griffen einen Schafhirten & seine Herde an, dann attackierten sie in Dorf die Einwohner und deren Eigentum. Anschließend rückte das Militär an und verhaftete sämtliche männlichen Einwohner.

This morning settlers attacked a Palestinian shepherd in Masafer Yatta and then continued into the village of Jinba. They attacked residents in several homes. At least 5 are injured; two have been evacuated by ambulance and others are awaiting treatment with moderate head and bodily injuries. There is also damage to several houses. This attack occurs only a few km east of where academy award winner Hamdan Bilal was attacked 4 days ago. As too many times before the army and police did nothing to prevent the attack or arrest the assailants, in fact the army so far has thrown stun grenades into homes in the community and joined the attack. The latest report is that the military is collecting all the men in the village probably with the intention of arresting a number of them and taking flocks of sheep out of their pens. Based on ongoing settler efforts it seems that there will be an attempt to confiscate much of the sheep on which the community depends for its living.

They released Hamdan Ballal. But what happened?

Shortly after Palestinian residents had finished their daily Ramadan fast dozens of masked Israeli settlers entered the West Bank village of Susiya.

Some of the settlers were armed with batons, others had knives and one of them was holding an M16 rifle. Among them were a group of Israeli soldiers who escorted the settlers inside the village.
Minutes later, the settlers walked straight over to the house of Hamdan Ballal. The settlers started throwing stones against his house, witnesses said, and chased Ballal to his house, beating him and eventually handing him over to the military. Handcuffed and blindfolded by the soldiers, Ballal, bleeding from his head, was moved to a military vehicle.
