I don’t always agree with #GetUp campaigns, but in this instance there is a lot of evidence ( #Murdochmedia ) to support their assertions. In any case, #NegativeGearing and #CapitalGains are two inflationary policies which need to go. My fervent hope is for Labor to be reelected in 2025 to give them the confidence to drop the sheepish attitude and get on with truly progressive policies, include this one.

“As the year comes to a close, let’s not forget how the Murdoch empire is keeping housing unaffordable for everyday people. By protecting corporate greed and blocking bold housing reforms, they’re driving up prices and leaving families behind. But 2025 is our chance to fight back. #HousingJustice #PeopleOverProfit #FairHousingForAll #EndNegativeGearing #StopCorporateGreed

New ATO data exposes the unfairness of our tax system: over 2,500 investors in Australia own 10 or more rental properties, receiving far greater benefits from negative gearing than everyday mum-and-dad investors. Meanwhile, taxpayers are left footing the bill, effectively subsidising their property empires.

@InsurgoFormica here's a proper article for sky:

Peter Dutton has significantly increased his personal wealth during his political career, largely through property investments. Before entering politics, he worked as a police officer and ran a family business. Since then, Dutton has acquired a notable property portfolio, including commercial and residential properties, valued in the millions. While his investments may not be illegal, his financial gains highlight how politicians can benefit from wealth accumulation, particularly through property markets.

Critics argue that Dutton's wealth growth is symbolic of a broader trend where politicians, through insider knowledge or favourable policies, can capitalise on opportunities that aren't as accessible to the general public. Additionally, as a senior figure in the Liberal Party, Dutton has had influence over policies that affect the property market, such as tax structures and negative gearing, which can benefit property investors like himself.

His property portfolio and financial success have raised questions about conflicts of interest and transparency, especially in a political climate where housing affordability is a pressing issue for many Australians.

‘Easier to buy your 10th house than your first’: Unions NSW joins push to reform negative gearing and capital gains tax theguardian.com/australia-news
#negativegearing #australiangovernment #ALP #anthonyalbanese #housing This just about says it all for the inbuilt inequity in Australia and the lack of ticker in the Labor Party. The government is not going to win the next election so why not do something for the working class. You do remember the working class?

The Guardian · ‘Easier to buy your 10th house than your first’: Unions NSW joins push to reform negative gearing and capital gains taxBy Paul Karp

Negative gearing, capital gains reforms unlikely to lead to major fall in property prices…. The journalist missed a critical point in this article. While the focus has been placed on potential rent increases and minimal impact on property prices, what isn’t being highlighted is the fact that we, as taxpayers, are already subsidising wealthy multiple property owners to the tune of $7 billion a year. It’s absurd that ordinary Australians are footing the bill for those who already hold significant wealth in real estate. If we’re serious about housing affordability and fairness, it’s time we stop propping up the property portfolios of the rich at the expense of the rest of us. #auspol #negativegearing #housingcrisis #capitalgainstax abc.net.au/news/2024-10-01/hou

The Greens are doing a good job; don’t know how you say otherwise.
This crisis has been in the making for a long time, we know that and it’s getting worse every month that goes by. It’s beyond a crisis and in reality is a catastrophe which whoever is in govt will be forced to act upon because it’s impacting people’s daily lives and their ability to exist. It ‘cannot’ be simply kicked down the road anymore.
It will and is impacting the economy. When you have so many homeless, workers living in tents and cars, couch surfing - things are shit, really shit.
Be let’s be realistic, Albanese doesn’t have the the ticker to do anything that will upset the rich & powerful or the Opposition - he’s scared of anything that moves. Just look at the gambling ad thing; I mean really dude - get a spine and a sense of duty.
It will be good to see Albanese replaced because he’s totally failed the Australian people in terms of leadership - plus he’s established himself as deceitful, dishonest and corrupt..

Negative gearing overwhelmingly benefits high earners, with those making over $180k a year taking nearly a quarter of the benefits, despite being just 5% of taxpayers. ATO data reveals that in 2021-2022, this group lowered their collective tax bill by $1.3bn through negative gearing—about 25% of all rental property losses claimed that year. But clearly, our ABC is more focused on representing the 5%, not the rest of Australians. #NegativeGearing #TaxReform #FairnessInTax #ABC #auspol

Journalism 101: report the facts, not your opinion, ABC. When covering negative gearing, why not focus on how most Australians don't benefit from it? Why not mention that the government is finally addressing a tax break that favours a small wealthy group instead of the majority? #NegativeGearing #FairReporting #TaxReform #ThisIsNotJournalims #auspol

ABC News · 48 hours of confusion on negative gearing this week has damaged Labor's brandBy Jacob Greber

Isn’t all so predictable? That as much as wiff that negative grearing and CGT was ‘looked at’ by the Treasurer would bring out a storm of doomsayers in the #Murdoch press. According to the #Murdocracy minions, if the govt so much as ‘touch’ these beloved tax rorts, the world will end in a boiling sea of fire and engulf all renters in eternal flames. Those spreading such nonsense are a bunch of self-serving f*#kwits.

There is only one type of individual who will feel the pinch of any progressive tax reform to these rorts, the freaking super wealthy. No one else. Of course, fear-mongering Trumps (pun intended) any truth.
