New research estimates that the 34 largest Bitcoin mining operations in the United States consumed more electricity in 2022 than all of Los Angeles combined. 85% of the electricity came from fossil fuels and exposed 1.9 million Americans to more than 0.1  μg/m3 of additional PM2.5 pollution.

First month on record: #fossilfuels drop below 50% of #US power mix
What this means is that #cleanenergy generated more than half – 50.8% – of US #electricity for the first month on record. Together, wind and #solar reached an all-time high, generating 83 TWh of US electricity, 11% higher than the previous record of 75 TWh set in April 2024. #Fossilfuel generation fell by 2.5% (-4.3 TWh) compared to March 2024.

Federal and most provincial #CarbonPricing for consumers is now dead in Canada. Murdered by the simplistic #AxetheTax chorus led by the Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre. Unfortunately many Canadians never did understand the program.
