Yes, I like Charlie Chaplin.
When I was younger and living in England, the intelligentsia tended to prefer Buster Keaton and were sniffy about Chaplin's sentimentality.
In addition, Chaplin's reputation suffered in the USA for a long time on account of red baiting.
I wonder too if Chaplin's predilection for much younger women will prejudice some viewers against his work.
Quite aside from his huge importance in the history of film, watching his pictures can be such a treat. I was once lucky enough to see a performance of "Modern Times" with a live orchestra - it was an unforgettable experience.
