Can anyone make use of a software engineer? I have around 25 years of experience programming. Languages I am proficient with are C, C++, C#, VB, IA32 Assembly, 6502 Assembly, MIPS Assembly, and SQL. My focus has been in Windows Forms based applications, UX, and graphics programming (both 2D and 3D). I'm based in the Southern PA area and am open to WFH situations for anything outside of that area.

New instance so I should do a new introduction.

As an American, I'm angered by what is happening here in the US. And as many who are angered by this, I found myself coming to social media to complain about it and pretty much stopped talking about what makes me really happy. Because of this, and a few other reasons, I decided to move to a new instance where I could sort of start over. I'm still going to post every once in a while about the issues here in the US and around the world but I want to focus more on technology and what I've been learning lately.

I'm a former IT Security Analyst (miss the work) and a former Unix Hardware Engineer for DEC (many, many years ago). I'm a Linux and Unix user of more than 30 years, I love technology of all sorts, I enjoy building websites, learning anything new when it comes to technology, and a privacy and security advocate.

I'm also a bike and public transport commuter in the St. Louis area. I work to make our streets safer for those who choose not to drive a car to get around.

Unfortunately, I've been unemployed for nearly a year, now, and looking for employment. If anyone knows of a company looking for someone who loves Linux, IT Security and Privacy, or someone who loves building websites, please let me know. I have 30+ years of experience but I think this experience (and my age) might also be a reason I'm struggling to find work.

I NEVER realised this. I saw a job ad that had an application deadline but said: "get your application in early as the post will be filled once we have the right candidate". I thought this would be completely illegal, but apparently it's not.

I now discovered that a lot of people say it's good to get your applications in early, as you will be noticed more. I always thought you had to judge all equally! And there is me, usually getting my applications in 5min before the deadline! #FediHire

Lots of experience with data analysis, liaising with stakeholders about what information they actually need. Can design and build ETL processes and databases, and do the documentation for them

Experience working with older, poorly documented systems and trying to understand them
Also a lot of experience with sensitive data about people, like medical records

Technical skills: SQL, SAS, some exposure to R. Happy to learn new languages
My preference is for building things that are simple and robust. Infrastructure should be boring

@protonprivacy is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Linux Desktop). Right now today, the Mozilla VPN frontend for Linux is better. The code is available and easily buildable on Linux but there are very strong concerns around privacy and some of those vpn routes including Mozilla as an organization being ripe for capture, if that isn't already the case. This looks like it would be a fun gig but probably not best for a US based citizen/programmer in our current environment. Sharing because this one is important (i use Proton and you should too, especially if you're in the US), I would be more than happy to cosign for anyone of my peers in the EU, Caribbean here.

Ein Kunde wünscht eine Software zum Auswerten von standardisierten Testbögen. Es geht darum angekreuzte Felder zu erkennen und daraus einen Score zu berechnen. Der Kunde würde sich eine App wünschen die die Daten über eine Smartphonekamera aufnimmt und direkt die notwendigen Berechnungen anstellt.
