[This time around, #Trump isn’t just separating & jailing #immigrants, he’s separating & jailing families who are long time residents.]

THE #IMMIGRANT FAMILIES JAILED IN #TEXAS

#Children have long been put in migrant #detention if they were apprehended at the #border. Today, lawyers have found, #families are being removed from stable lives in the #UnitedStates.

Some #Trump admin leaders have already begun enacting policies that promote larger #families. Most notably, Transportation Secy Sean Duffy—who is a father of 9 & has 10 siblings—published a memo early this year pledging to prioritize #funding in areas w/higher than average birth & marriage rates. Several analysts within the dept say the policy could result in less money for large, urban transit, & more for highways & car-share services in rural areas [white suburbs].

Much of the movement is built around *promoting* [dictating] a very specific idea of what constitutes a #family — one that includes #marriage between a #man & a #woman, & leaves out many #families that don’t conform to traditional #gender roles or family structures. In contrast to the intense emphasis on cost cutting so far during #Trump’s second term, this focus on families could result in spending more money to back a *new* set of priorities.

"Director Andrew Ahn adapted the screenplay with producer James Schamus from Ang Lee’s 1993 rom-com — a movie that Chen at one point was going to star in. Chen and Youn, who goes by YJ, spoke to Variety about relating to their characters, how filmmaking differs around the world and finally working together."

Our NDP platform defends people—workers, families, and the vulnerable—by putting their needs first. Unlike the Liberals and Conservatives, who would let billionaires, bankers, and big corporations run the show, we’ll make the ultra-rich pay their fair share and invest in services that truly support Canadians. #election2025 #portmoody #coquitlam #anmore #belcarra #ReElect #Bonita #MemberOfParliament #WorkingForYiu #Hibs #Workers #families #defending #people #canada #elbowsup #teamcanada

In the meantime, we're aware that it can be hard to find things on our site. We'd love to help you find what you need.

Take a look around our library yourself. If you'd like help finding anything by film length, student age, subject, theme, activity, or anything else, drop us a note on Mastodon or through the contact section of our site, and we'll do our best to find you the very thing.

Also, if you're using resources as a grandparent, parent or babysitter, or otherwise outside a formal learning environment, we'd love to hear what you're using and how it works for you. Drop us a note here in the Fediverse or contact us through our site. /5

Federal #voucher programs currently provide assistance to ~2.3M #LowIncome #families, acc/to the govt’s estimates, who enroll through their local public-#housing authorities. The #aid is part of a broader universe of #RentalAssistance programs that are set to exceed $54B this fiscal year. But the annual demand for these subsidies is far greater than available funds, creating a sizable wait list as rents are rising nationally.
