@Snoro

«The Trump administration is continuing to pursue its pledge to prioritize American energy independence and SCALE BACK THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S PLANS TO UNDERSTAND and prevent climate change.»

Caps mine for emphasis.

The clarity of the highlighted phrasing is stark. Even if you didn't have a massive global consensus of scientists telling you specifically what was up with the climate, and instead you only knew that weather was being pretty wonky in recent years—and really I think anyone on the street knows that—why on earth would you go the path of seeking LESSENED UNDERSTANDING??

Let's not kid ourselves. The #lobbyists have been hard at work, making deals and targeting audiences.

When it comes to #ClimateDenial, nothing beats shooting narratives straight into the living room, where the entire #family can be #misinformed.

This is often why I say #parents should run their own #jellyfin and curate the family's media diet regarding films and series.

Fantastic turnout at the strike against the cuts in higher education in #Wageningen! More than THOUSANDFOURHUNDRED participants join the strike and the march! This is unexpected! We stand with all our colleagues that want a fact based public debate - against #climatedenial and other populist politics! We have voiced it loud and clear today:
STOP the ATTACK on SCIENCE.
STOP the ATTACK on JOBS.
STOP. THE. CUTS.

@petergleick climate change is nasty as it says that winners and losers may change places . The rich don’t like it because money is everything and climate change is a threat. If they are smart enough then they know it’s coming but they can’t bend to the need to provide for saving the race and the current ecology. They want to continue as they do even though the enemy is at the gate.

I had 2 thoughts about this. First was why is the Murdock press talking up CO2 reductions in the UK but not Australia? Second, given the large contribution of renewables in the Australian electricity grid, why don’t we talk more about the successes. If we did more of that then the bogus Dutton nuclear push and his desire to turn back renewables and EVs would be shown for what they are, climate change denial.

This is the scurrilous stuff the UK's far right are putting out in Lancashire.
It's the usual stuff, a mix of xenophobic diversion from the real causes of the erosion of livelihoods, fantasy 'solutions'.
"Waste" referred to is not actual material waste, of which we have a global crisis, but State expenditure, including welfare.

Labour leadership won't meaningfully oppose them - that would mean actual political education. Ha ha.

I do actually worry about bananas, but anything with dates even as high as 2050, much less 2080, seem like either risks safely far away (unlikely, but possible) or overly optimistic timelines.

I'm not making light of the Climate threat. Rather, I'm saying all of humanity is in imminent peril of deadly famines and the resource wars that will accompany them, long before such far-off dates. Just to name only one of many nearer-term risks.

People seem to think that the big Climate risks are first-order ones like drowning due to rising seas or heat so high people can't in any way survive. But not everything we depend on is as robust as we are, so if our primary food supply dies (just for example), it won't really matter that our air conditioners still work or that a few bananas still grow somewhere. We will have killed each other in bloody uprisings long before.

It's the second- and third-order effects of climate, the domino effects of seemingly small things, that we should be tracking better. For example, if a country exporting bananas in exchange for other foods finds no one offering those other foods for trade, yes, we're short bananas, but what will those countries do that have an excess of bananas and a paucity of other needed goods. It won't take much before borders start to tighten up.

And then on top of it, we see the felon creating both tariff policy and international bad will that causes people to think about closing down trade for other reasons, hastening a problem that was maybe going to come. That won't make things better. It could just force a crisis even sooner.

But the idea that we'll be able to survive with global society intact doing what we're doing now in the world for another 50+ years until there's a banana crisis just does not pass the laugh test with me.

🧵 Excluding straight up greed & outright evil, #ClimateDenial is actually just #ClimateAnxiety wearing a cheap mask.

Climate Denial is that same destructive coping tactic we so often use against things that scare us, cause us pain, scar us. We bury it down deep. Pretend it never happened. Look the other way. Like so many pathologies it's destructive beyond the individual & acts out in ways detrimental to society
