The stupidity of the US commentators here talking to Doug Ford is just... 🤦♂️</p><p>Joe Kernen (sp) called Mark Carney, a former central banker, a “zealot”. A ZEALOT!? 😅 Because he believes in climate change apparently, or 'climate justice’ as he put it?</p><p>Obviously these fools still believe we can just burn down the planet and their investment portfolios will be just fine.</p><p>This was after there was sudden mass confusion on the American talking head side when Ford said Canada would get rid of all tariffs if the USA got rid of theres... obviously meaning the reciprocal tariffs Canada has put on, but apparently the talking heads thought he meant the tariffs Trump complains about (which by all accounts have never been applied)... which we should all know is just another smokescreen to Trump's actual intention, which is authoritarian, centralized control and manipulation of the market and thus economy of the United States and, in his hope, the world.</p><p>These are the same people who a year ago would have been cheerleading NAFTA/CUSMA... whose very purpose is tariff free trade.🤦♂️</p><p>Oh and "Joe" also tries to bait Ford into giving an opinion on Carney winning the election, Ford smartly avoids (as is Canadian political practice) much to Joe's chagrin.</p><p>Ford does an OK job overall here but I am saddened at the shot he takes at Mexico on "cheap parts" and talking about a "CUSA” deal without Mexico.</p><p>I don't understand Canada and Mexico's reluctance to work together through all this. The TADC was founded in 1989 in support of the Chinese pro-democracy movement in May and June 1989. Not only TADC, but many other pro-democracy organizations like it around the world, were also founded in 1989 in support of the movement. The movement is most well known for June 4, 1989, when the Tianamen Square Massacre occurred.</p><p>June 4 memorials occur in every major city across Canada, even 35 years later. The TADC holds a June 4 memorial every year in Toronto. I encourage everyone who is interested in learning more about Chinese transnational repression to attend your local June 4 memorial. In the last few years, ever since Hong Kong's annual June 4 memorial was banned, these memorials overseas have taken on even more significance. We remember in public, for those who cannot.</p><p>Finally, this article is completely correct: The Chinese Canadian, and the Uyghur Canadian, and the Tibetan Canadian communities - all of us are the real victims of this repression. Cindʎ Xiao 🍉<p>I'm glad Paul Chiang is no longer a federal Liberal candidate, because his comments about Hong Kong activist and federal Conservative candidate Joe Tay were completely disgusting and unacceptable. Props to the Toronto Association for Democracy in China for originally breaking the story. I have huge respect as well Vancouver-East NDP MP Jenny Kwan for consistently speaking up, year after year, about transnational repression by the PRC, even despite the fact that CSIS has warned her about being a target of that repression.</p><p>Transnational repression by the PRC is a very real problem, Chinese diaspora communities are hurt a great deal by it, and the left in Canada needs to be like Jenny Kwan in consistently and unapologetically standing against it. </p><p>Conservative politicians in Canada such as Michael Chong and Kenny Chiu have been very strong voices in standing with activists targeted by the PRC as well, and have themselves also been targeted with PRC disinformation campaigns. They are completely correct in speaking up. This should not be a partisan issue.</p><p>Any analysis of speaking against the PRC as "xenophobia" or "sinophobia" is wrong. It ties Chinese identity solely to the PRC state, which I find insulting, ignorant, and foolish.
