2/2 "Bill Owens gave a dire warning about Trump’s control over the network and his fear that #CBS and #Paramount were likely gearing up to reach a settlement with #Trump on his ridiculous lawsuit. The fact that #BillOwens could no longer work at #60Minutes tells you just how bad it is now at CBS. No wonder news networks aren’t showing the mass protests, the town halls, and the shadow hearings."

"The longtime head of CBS’ #60Minutes resigned Tuesday, as the network’s parent company contemplates a settlement with President Trump over his lawsuit focusing on an interview the show did with then-VP Kamala Harris last fall.
In an emotionally charged meeting Tuesday afternoon, and again in a note to staff released publicly shortly after, the show’s executive producer, #BillOwens said he was departing after 37 years with CBS News [...]'

Citing a loss of journalistic freedom in the wake of a Trump lawsuit, Bill Owens, the executive producer of 60 Minutes and of the CBS Evening News, has resigned.
This is how the anchors of CBS Evening News ended their broadcast tonight.
Superb @cbseveningnews.bsky.social coverage of Bill Owens leaving as producer of 60 Minutes.

#60Minutes exec. producer leaves, apparently over #CBS being ready to capitulate to #Trump. https://www.npr.org/2025/04/22/nx-s1-5372733/60-minutes-bill-owens-cbs-trump-paramount?utm_source=firefox-newtab-en-us
With his show involved in a bitter dispute with President Donald Trump, the top executive at the storied CBS News show “60 Minutes” abruptly resigned on Tuesday while saying he’s losing the freedom to run it independently.

RE
#CBS censored...producer quit because...no...freedom to make his own stories?
Is this what killed #60Minutes?
Recent show on #birdflu and #H5N1 was kinda informative (and scarry) imo. Maybe CBS has lessened control?

#USAGM (including its "special adviser" #KariLake) acted unlawfully in shutting down the #VoiceofAmerica #VOA
Speaking of shutting down, #MSNBC and #Politico and #NYTimes reports "Chaos prevails at #ThePentagon"

Is this story why CBS censored them so much that prominent producer quit because he no longer had freedom to make his own stories?
Is this what killed 60 Minutes?
Bill Owens resigns as EP of 60 MINUTES, with these damning words: "Over the past months, it has become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it, to make independent decisions based on what was right for ‘60 Minutes,’ right for the audience."
That's where we are at, folks. Corporate media has dunned its nose in fealty to Trump. Any patina of "journalism" has been surrendered.

"Bill Owens, the executive producer of 60 Minutes, says he is leaving the flagship news program because he lost his journalistic independence."
60 Minutes executive producer leaves program over journalistic independence
"Bill Owens says in staff memo ‘it has become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it’."

And thus the censorship begins.
Longtime 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens is resigning. In an email to staff Owens cited an inability "to make independent decisions based on what was right for 60 Minutes."
"Over the past months, it has...become clear that I would not be allowed to run the show as I have always run it," Owens wrote. "To make independent decisions based on what was right I am stepping aside so the show can move forward."
Top producer of ’60 Minutes’ resigns in wake of Trump lawsuit
The longtime executive producer of “60 Minutes” is leaving the program, writing to staff on Monday he could no longer preside over the Sunday evening show objectively as it faces increasing threats and a multimillion-dollar lawsuit from President Trump.
This doesn't seem major, but it is...Freedom of speech and freedom of the press are in big trouble.

Aaron Parnas Breaking News Head of 60 Minutes Resigns
In his memo on Tues, #BillOwens pledged that “‘#60Minutes’ will continue to cover the new #Trump admin, as we will report on future administrations” [though seriously? Ge cannot guarantee that if he isn’t there]. He added: “The show is too important to the country. It has to continue, just not with me as the executive producer.”
I've been wondering when this shoe was going to drop. They've been doing some amazing reporting about Trump regime malfeasance. Good for the man for getting a few good licks in before the inevitable corporate media cowardice brought the guillotine down.
