Anyway the filament has deteriorated in the Bowden tube and the hot end. This meant I had to dismantle the whole shebang. Then stick the Bowden tube in boiling water to soften the old filament. Anyway. And everyone with a history in <a href="https://social.makerforums.info/tags/3DPrinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#3DPrinting</a> continues to bring up the Anet A8 as a cautionary tale, and would recommend against Anet for actively disabling a critical safety feature and burning down people's houses as a result.Qidi has decided to one-up Anet by not only selling printers with a critical design flaw that even many novices know not to make, but then also doubling down and <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/1jnuju1/rqiditech3d_permanently_banned_me_for_warning/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">permanently banning a customer from their subreddit after he reported that they had burned down his house</a>.I used to recommend Qidi to experienced folks looking for an upgrade path, based on the quality of prints from my Qidi X-Max 3, and the level of support they provided me during the warranty period.But the Qidi Plus4 using an SSR to control power to the heated bed and having no thermal fuse? Even I knew when I first used an SSR for a mains-powered bed in a homebrew 3D printer that I needed a permanently-bonded thermal fuse on the bed, because SSRs are lifetime-limited parts that fail conducting, and not using a thermal fuse is a fire waiting to happen.Not including a thermal fuse isn't just a rookie mistake, it's engineering malfeasance. With this administration I don't expect to have a functional CPSC any more, which is a crying shame. This printer should be recalled, and Qidi should be covering all the costs both of the recall and of the resulting fire(s).

'better ' at it, but one of the core things I'm missing is how folks do design when it needs to work with other complex parts. I had to design the sled to use with the rails, every component outside of the bed-base and the extrusion frame is custom or customized. I'm looking at making a big upgrade to the hot end but nobody makes my part, and I need a cooling solution. So how do I design a fan/duct system that mounts to my hot end mount, fits all the pieces and is the right length? It seems incredibly daunting to have to <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/CAD" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#CAD</a> up the entire assembly from scratch. But other folks do this... Somehow? If I look for cooling solutions on any print-sharing website there are thousands of them. What am I missing here? 🙁
