I have received two birthday party invitations and two holiday party invitations for this weekend, the weekend on which I'd celebrate my birthday if I was bothering to celebrate it.
I dislike being a December baby.
One of these years I'm going to celebrate my birthday in June and have the pool party I've always wanted
@shauna I’ve done this the past three years and I _extremely_ recommend it
@aldeka did people find it weird? i don't know that that's what's stopping me per se, but I don't think I've ever been invited to a birthday party so far away from the person's actual birthday and I guess in this particular respect I'm being a sheep
@shauna I don’t think so? Other people like (pool and otherwise) parties and are often similarly overcommitted in December :)
The final impetus to making it a half-birthday shindig was that it avoids peak covid/flu season so more people were comfortable gathering.
@shauna I keep saying I'm going to do this. I'm a December birthday (between Christmas and New Year's Eve) so I know the black hole that is the holidays. I'm also not one to throw myself a party, so I'm kind of at odds with that too.
Oh no, that's the worst part of December to have a birthday in. :(
Although you are born during Union Week! (A union I was part of bargained for the whole week between Christmas and New Years as paid holidays so we called it Union Week.)
I think I'm actually going to do it this year. Maybe I'll send out an invite on my actual birthday...need to commit now so I'll follow through. The last few years I've said maybe I'll do it and then just never celebrated my birthday at all
@shauna @webology
I LOVE the “pick your own birthday" idea.
May I also suggest:
- Celebrating your birthday at the PyCon/DjangoCon/OtherConference of your choice. You'll have a built-in group of friends. Make it a Destination Birthday!
- Take a nap and eat some {food_of_your_choice} or {food_you_weren't_allowed_to_eat_as_a_kid}
@shauna mine is in November. Now that I live in Barcelona, I can still get in the water at the beach without freezing on my birthday. Slightly different than while growing up in Iowa or while spending most of my adult life in NYC.
@obrien_kat yeah I guess the alternative is moving to Australia, could get a pool party on my actual birthday then
