#Mastodev Is anyone else sick and tired of opening up EVERY SINGLE content warning button when I read a long thread? I just gave up on a thread I was reading. It was just too much trouble.
I'm not against CW but I'm against bad #UX. If I open a CW in a thread, is it that hard to open them all up? This is a win/win: CWs are still respected and I can read a thread in peace.
@scottjenson isn't there a button at the top of the thread for that?
@sheogorath That was pointed out to me and you're correct it's there but it's not very visible. On top of that it's just extra work. When I click on the "show more" link (at least for the desktop web client that's what is there) it should just open up everything in the thread. Why should there ever be a 'just open one' button? It's unnecessarily complicated.
@scottjenson That problem is also visible when using keyword filters to collapse posts. Usability problem is on both Mastodon and Bsky platforms.
@scottjenson You're absolutely right. I elected to just "show all cwd posts" but that's absolutely not for everyone since the whole purpose of being on the receiving end of CWs then is moot.
@scottjenson i think that is a usability issue that would be welcome :)
@scottjenson Most of the clients I use solve that problem.
@scottjenson there should be a button to open them all at the top of the thread view, with absolutely 0 affordance or way to know it does that
@renchap Interesting! I just noticed it. You're right, it works and I had no idea it was there.
Is there any reason why clicking on the "show more" link in one of the posts can't just open it for the entire thread? e.g. make "show more" just do what the "eye icon" does?
@scottjenson There might be other CWs in the thread that are not about the same kind of content I guess, sometimes you might be ok with expanding a “CW: food”, but not a reply that contains “CW: nudity”.
I guess this is the reason?
@renchap But for a specific thread, isn't it the case that it's the same CW for the entire thread? In that case, it just seems helpful to show them all. If it's possible to mix CWs on the same thread, that sounds crazy.
@scottjenson CWs are specific to a post, so there may be multiple CWs in the different messages in a reply chain.
@renchap Are you reffering to the Android and iOS app? Or to the web app? I haven't found the button on the latter. @scottjenson
