@iona believe me, in Ireland we have our issues too (North and South).

But the UK is really going through an existential crisis which IMHO stems from a political system that can't deal with the multiplicity of points of view that now exist there (be it on the EU, Scotland/NI or indeed social/economic questions).

I always thought that by now the UK would have reformed its political system - but it hasn't, and implosion looks like the likely outcome :(

@samtoland @iona Good point. First-past-the-post essentially forces a two party system, which in turn necessitates "broad churches", which generate internecine warfare and lead to utter stupidity like Cameron calling a referendum. In a more sensible democracy we would have at least four major parties.
