in vim, i use ALE for syntax & linting; what is the preferred php linter/language server these days?

for the time being i'm doing `:AsyncRun php -l %` every time i want to check... not unmanageable but not optimal!

@redoak i haven't really got much traction with fancy LSP stuff and keep meaning to revisit it. seems like i'm just using syntastic, probably `php -l` under the hood:

Plugin 'vim-syntastic/syntastic'
let g:syntastic_check_on_open = 1
let g:syntastic_php_checkers = ['php']

@brennen i switched from syntastic to ALE when async came along (vim8?). i'd rather stay in one system for all that. i do have the basic linter enabled there, but running php -l manually is finding errors that ALE doesn't seem to be.

@redoak i'm gonna have to give that thing a try. syntastic is nice enough, but the lag on loading some languages is kind of unpleasant...
