Oh, I should mention: I am currently a freelance Django developer, but I'm *very* interested in finding a few like-minded folks to build a development co-op.

Especially interested in building secure and/or federated versions of the items on this list:

tbh we could also just specialize on helping credit unions offer 2FA, seems like they all need the help

for the record it seems worth clarifying that i am not the author of that blog post, just a fan of her work!

@redoak I, too, am a Django developer looking to join a dev coop.

@gdorn i must admit that I've not given a lot of thought to all of the steps involved in making my toot a reality but I'm certainly thinking more about it now!

@redoak This essay is fantastic, thanks for the link. Have you seen the Dat Project, and the tools that are starting to be built up around it? Beaker (browser), Mapeo (maps), Cabal (chat), Dat (filesharing)? It's a pretty cool community ... I'm myself hoping to add my $.02 by developing decentralized water / farm infrastructure using their ecosystem ... anyhow, cheers!

@redoak It looks like we're so close to some of the solutions. I appreciate a consolidation of this information. I've been trying to figure out how to use reddit like voting to prioritize all of these tools. There are many sites that do this, however most are biased towards selling ads, not improving the software they're sharing. All of these components are still disconjoined. Any ideas/strategies for glueing it all together?

@redoak Thanks for the welcome, I'm glad to be finding good folks to follow already! I appreciate the link to this essay in particular, I spent a year a while back working on what I wanted to become a federated issue tracker! This is making me want to revive that project.

@sam nice, ive been hoping forgefed would fill that niche but another project in the space would be cool. I'm also eager to see how your garage project progresses and I hope the collective experience on is a good resource for that!

since you're in software I also wanna plug our tech working group - our next meeting is 3/17 at 19:30 UTC and we have more ideas than capacity right now.

@redoak I haven't heard of that one, I'll have to check it out; thanks! I'll definitely stop by the tech working group one of these days too.
