Even now, 12+ hours on, there are some hashtagged toots from an octogon.social user that I'd expect to see in search results here on #social.coop that are missing. I follow that user and the toots showed in my "home" timeline just fine, but they're missing in search.

Are our indexing settings/frequencies visible somewhere?

@Antanicus @paregorios are they toots from someone you follow? I've been trying to wrap my head around exactly how #hashtags federate, as well, and I feel like I read somewhere that they had approximately similar behavior to public timeline posts, but I could be wrong.

@mattcropp @paregorios @Antanicus short answer, hashtags don't federate :) They only get distributed as any other post gets distributed; to followers and with boosts.

@zatnosk @Antanicus @paregorios so if I see a post in a #hashtag search from someone I don't follow, is it only because someone I follow boosted it? Or do I see the hashtags of people others on my instance follow, too?

So, to be specific, compare the following two result sets, both in non-authenticated sessions:

https://social.coop/tags/beforemoderntimes

https://octodon.social/tags/beforemoderntimes

The second one shows all the posts that have been made (to my knowledge) with that hashtag. The social.coop one shows only those made by members of our instance. I follow everyone whose posts are shown in the octodon.social example and they follow me.

What's behind the difference?
