Worker often aspire to be more than good places to work, in particular trying to be integral and nurturing parts of the communities they're embedded in.

How much conscious effort have made to redefine tech's relationship to communities? Durham, NC, has a serious gentrification problem, and the growing tech industry is a major contributor. What projects and partnerships could tech coops pursue to substantively change this?

@nmashton one that comes to mind is how coworking spaces are organized and what their intent is. I would like them to be more like community centers. Ideas off the top of my head:

* non profit and local business discounts on office space
* allow space to be used for community events
* board with long time residents as board members
* community land trust fund that coworkers can pay into to support the purchase of property by long time, poc working class residents

@nmashton buying property under a non-profit structure and freeze the rent to a decent price. Use surplus to renovate and buy more property. Make private land owners history.
