Once upon a time, I was trying to pick a #creativecommons license and, reasonably, decided that I probably didn't need people to make money off of my work. Then, the Creative Commons license picker warned me that CC-BY-NC-SA isn't a "free culture" license. Now, every time I see it or something similar (like, say, GPL), my brain goes "but wait! What about free culture???"
I feel like it's going to take a while to get over that.
@njms it is somewhat of a pain though. I once asked someone to use their art for making stickers and he said he wouldn’t waiver the license. So, unless I give them away for free, I can’t even make stickers because of the NC part.
@emil I can see why that could be frustrating. For me, it's mainly a safeguard against having my stuff get picked up by a larger business. Let it be known that if my work is licensed under CC-BY-NC-SA and you're an individual selling stuff I'd probably wave the license for your derivative works
