question: OK, so when I view someone's profile from their toot in the federated TL, and click "Followers", I can see who on my instance follows them. But with some users, no one shows up in "Followers". What's up with that? I assume it's because of blocking/muting, but on which end?

On checking, I don't have anyone on my instance blocked or muted, so it must be someone who's blocked/muted me.

Is there a way to hide not just a user, but all the ones they "loop in" to the federated timeline? (Should there be? Seems like it'd be confusing. Never mind.)

@nev
I think it's not blocking so much as you/maybe yr instance haven't federated with those followers, and showing the followers doesn't count as federating, so it's just empty/incomplete

(At least, that's my understanding, since I usually see I.e. ppl I follow and little more, and i'm on a smaller instance)

Yes, I think this is right. Your instance only starts receiving posts from a profile when someone on our instance starts following someone (or boosts their post, but just the post is logged).

If you want to view an off-instance person's complete public profile, click on a toot's time-stamp.
