Across the square, a cryptic Cyrillic message glows through the rain: OTИOЯOT.

@stephen otioyaot to you as well, tovarich

I think the locals would pronounce it ot-ee-oh-ya-ot, but I'm not sure which syllables to stress. Tips from Slavic language speakers welcome.

@nev "Ot Or Not"

I see Zuckerberg spent some time there pre-Facebook.

@nev Based on what I know of Russian, I'd pronounce it as OH-tee-uh-YA-uht, primary stress on the ya, secondary on the oh.
The unstressed 'o's get reduced to schwas (like the 'o' in "memory"). That sort of reduction is common in Russian, but not other Slavic languages, which are more likely to leave those as short [o] sounds.
IPA: [ˌotʲiəˈjæət]

@nev crazy. i went a-sportsing this summer past one time and at the sportsing place, where the sports were sported, the sports supporters ran up and down the sportsfield carrrying a series of signs that said SOGRA. They weren't Cryllic though.
