@nev Capitalism reinforces gun culture, misogyny, white nationalism, and reactionary videogame consumerism (along with every other existing power structure, by virtue of the fungibility & liquidity of capital/power). I'd argue that making major platforms open-source does reduce the power that monopolistic capitalists have to shape discourse & culture, and so it isn't *completely* orthogonal to quelling reactionary abuse

@nev The greater problem imo is that these hateful people exist *at all*, and broader political action is the only way to fight the core of this. They can still abuse and bring violence to marginalised people in real life and other digital platforms. Reducing the surface area they have for abuse is definitely a worthwhile design endeavor, but not a panacea, and there's a very hard limit on how much content moderation can be enforced while keeping the platform democratic/open-source.
